(Write a review) "I absolutely love my S&T SMLE but I have to be honest. This 5-star rating is mostly about the aesthetic and the build quality. When the gun showed up it was chronoing 300fps or less with a .25g bb, and it had serious trouble hopping .32s or higher. In general, the stock accuracy was good. but the bb is very slow and the range is less than most ages. I have put an m150 TM l96 spring that I cut down to 5 coils more than the stock one, a 405mm maple leaf inner barrel, and a 70 degree maple leaf Decepticon bucking. in its current state, I'm shooting 320fps with .40g bbs and the hopup is only up by about a third. I can easily over hop .43s if I push the hop past halfway, so the power range and accuracy are almost as good as my ssg-24. I'm able to hit a man-sized target quite consistently at 250ft and in.
If I hadn't upgraded the gun it would have been virtually impossible to get any hits with it, but I just played with my upgrades in it this weekend and it destroyed. many shots through brush and at long distance landed, to my great surprise. That being said, no one's going to be the next sniper YouTuber with this thing. It's a beautiful piece of history that can be upgraded quite well if you know what you're doing but as a stock gun, it's a 3-star at best. The fps is too low and the inner barrel is so long it out-volumes the cylinder, hurting the range. In general its a great base or plinking gun for a WW1 or BF1 enthusiast, but not an out-of-the-box sniper rifle. She's a diamond in the ruff, but. a diamond nonetheless.
PS: Evike, please god, restock these magazines im using speed loaders as stripper clips out here "Absolutely Awesome looking piece. Performance as expected. I owned an original no. 1 MK. III, the detail on this airsoft piece is well worth the cost. The accuracy is high.
Many reviews will mention the Butt plate not being Brass. I do not have a problem with this. if you do not like it. Replace with a real one. you can find them. size and shape of piece are identical. just use the screws from the airsoft version. holes line up with no issue.
The wood stock, magazine and all other parts fit tight. i was glad to see that the barrel bands link together as original.
was able to chamber and fire 10 rounds, and hit 250metre (equivalent) target within mad minute. I am ready for the front. "I waited a bit to review this (ordered it as soon as it was released).
First and foremost it's a really good gun. Very long range. Surprisingly accurate, and reasonably solid.
I waited to review because this comes with one of the most hideous orange tips ever. I can confirm a real steel SMLE nose cap WILL NOT FIT THIS REPLICA. It's inner curvature is a little too small and won't fit over the replicas wood and outer barrel. Additionally the screws are different in diameter, the holes on the replica are smaller and thus the real screws are too big and the replicas screws are too small for the real nose cap. Long story short: spray paint job.
My primary other complaint is the magazine. For one I have a real steel SMLE and it feels weird to remove the magazine, well, ever. But to be fair other airsoft guns at times require operations totally foreign from the real counterpart. But that's not the main problem. The main problem is the way it works. There's a open chanel down the middle of the mag where a plastic fin attached to the bolt slides through while working the bolt, pushing a bb out of the mag and into the chamber. Problem is that the plastic fin is very thin and flimsy and you can see that if the mag is over filled or stiff or jammed at all, the normal pressure of of putting the bolt into battery may break it, which it isn't available as a replacement so keep that in mind.
Minor other quibble. The wood is kinda of bad. Airsoft has this problem in general particularly on aks, but the wood is super low quality. Tbh a fake, m14 style fake wood would likely be an improvement.
I know it sounds like I'm ragging on this gun but I can confirm it's a very good gun. Genuinely field usable. The range stock is very good. The hopup is very finely tunable and allows for pretty heavy bbs. Using a golf tournament range finder i can confirm that stock, with .25g, and proper hopup it will hit man sized at 170 feet, and decent 7x7 paper groupings at 155. It takes VSR10 upgrades so I could see 200 feet decent groupings as possible. Read More Reviews Write a Review
