"A solid gun at a solid price point. For those wondering, this is the cheapest L85 AEG on the market. It's pricetag might seem hefty, but G&G usually does some good stuff and this doesn't disappoint.

I bought the A1 model which I plan on using for a late 1980s British Army kit. The external differences between the A1 and the A2 are very small; mainly the charging handle and the addition of mag release fencing on the A2.

The receiver is stamped steel. It is very, very durable, and adds a bit of weight to the rifle. All of it is balanced at the rear where the gearbox is, which makes target acquisition a bit easier as the barrel can be swung up into action quicker than normal. It has a 510mm barrel in it which, honestly, could allow you to turn this thing into a DMR if you wanted (it's the same barrel length that is in the M16).

Trigger response is snappy, in part to the ETU and MOSFET that G&G include in the gearbox. That is the one pitfall of bullpups: the spongy trigger. This one, while not super crisp like most high end builds, is still light-years ahead of other bullpups in terms of trigger response. The MOSFET can also be programmed for burst fire by holding the trigger in semi for ten seconds. Should it die, it can also be replaced with a Perun ETU++, which is...well...a plus.

Battery space is not huge, but not small either. A 9.6v NiMH is a snug fit in the handguard but fits nonetheless. I plan on either using an 11.1v LiPo or Li-Ion in mine from now on.

A minor nitpick, but the mag release pin can work its way out of its mounting hole every now and then. This isn't the end of the world, as long as you reseat it back into place every few mags (which can be done quickly with your finger). I would also recommend to disable the EBB (unless you're into that) to prolong the life of your gearbox, which can be done without having to take the gearbox out of the gun.

Would I recommend this? If you like bullpups, and the L85 in particular, then absolutely. I like mine so much that I'm planning on buying another, either the AFV or the A3 model if I can find one in stock somewhere.

"TL;DR - Good performing gun and great realism for the money. I recommend.

The L85A2 has always had a place in my heart as a unique firearm since the days of TC’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2. To no surprise, having this in my airsoft arsenal was a no brainer as it brought back the nostalgia of those days.

Clearly, this is built for realism. Out in the field, the sheer weight and tank-like construction of this airsoft rifle will challenge your level of strength and endurance that not many players have. This is NOT a light airsoft gun. I highly recommend a sling! Either a 2-point sling or 3-point sling is needed. There is a front and rear sling point for hooks or straps. The balance is back heavy as the gearbox sits in the rear, but shouldering airsoft gun makes it feel noticeably light to aim and maneuver. The G&G L85A2 ETU performs well as it has a respectably high strength spring, good air seal, decent precision, and accuracy. All components good for an outdoor field. The FPS may be a little too high for indoor fields.

The G&G L85A2 ETU’s mid-tier pricing comes with mid-tier design choices and features that have been a delight to shoot - the snapping of the bolt as you pull the trigger and send a volley of BBs down range at the opposing team. One word: SATISFYING.

Teching and adding attachments to this airsoft gun poses challenges as some parts are proprietary and attachment solutions are not provided and need further investments in compatible products. I’ll list proprietary parts further below.

Overall, the G&G L85A2 ETU has served as an exceptionally reliable and good performing AEG out of the box, since I first ordered it back in February 2020. In a community filled with different AR platforms, it is refreshing to use and to see one of these out in the wild. To this day, its soap box exterior turn peoples’ heads and folks ask about the airsoft gun. It still stands as my go-to, and I would highly recommend this for anyone who is looking for a bullpup airsoft gun.

Pros:
• Excellent base for a compact “DMR”
• Great Out-of-the-Box Performance
• Durable
• Excellent Aiming Balance
• Gearbox Split Design (Easier Spring Changes)

Cons:
• HEAVY (~3/4 weight of Real Thing)
• Not Lefty Friendly
• Too hot for Indoors
• No Barrel Tracer Threading

Technical Things to Watch Out For:
• Mag Release Pin can slip out (Known Issue)
• Gearbox Lockup on Semi (Known Issue)
• Proprietary Gearbox Shell and Cylinder Head interface
• Proprietary Tappet Plate, Gearbox Shell, Cylinder Head
