I'd suggest teaching your kid how to properly cock these making sure to come straight back. These are light plastic, so not going straight back and any bending could easily break these guns.

The assault rifles are great and are painful. Me and my two sons (11&12) year old love them!!!

We did switch to heavier bullets for better accuracy.
