EMG / Kel-Tec Licensed RDB17 Airsoft Bullpup AEG Rifle (Color: Tan)

"Bought the rdb17 and used it for one game. So far, out of the ~40 airsoft guns I've owned for the past 7 years, this gun is my favorite!
The gun fits sooo nicely in my arms, and the weight distribution is perfect. It's very satisfying to hold! Two things I noticed about this gun right away were: 1) It is much thinner than I expected, which I love! 2) This gun feels like one SOLID unit...I mean, there's no wobble whatsoever and the rifle feels very sturdy! The materials it is made of feel thick and I have absolute confidence it won't break fast.
The performance of this gun out of the box is excellent! I use .28g bbs with this gun and the trajectory really impressed me. The trigger has a satisfying click, and I absolutely love how they separated the trigger mechanism from the gearbox - an absolutely genius design! Selector switch has a satisfying and positive click. Both mags feed perfectly fine, had no issues there. One thing I realized is that the short mag (Ares 100rnd AMAG) has many advantages over the big mag because the short mag allows you to go prone without having your gun lift up!
For CQB, this rifle is also perfect once you swap the spring. The compact design plus long barrel makes this an excellent choice for CQB.
Cons:
As mentioned by other reviewers, yes, the battery space is tight. I managed to fit a 1100mah 7.4v battery with no issues, and the performance with a 7.4v is actually not too bad! The major reason as to why I was hesitant to buy this gun is that the hopup unit is in the magwell. However, once I dialed it in, it held up perfectly fine the whole day, therefore don't be too worried about the hopup unit not being accessible, it's not as bad as it sounds and the pros of this gun outweighs the cons in my opinion. Currently, there are no replacement parts for this gun besides the trigger unit/electronics. But this gun is an ARES gun, and I've owned several ARES guns in the past and never had any of them break; ARES is a good brand and makes tank gearboxes and externals.
Pros:
Literally the best airsoft bullpup AEG! I have been hunting for a new bullpup assault rifle and I think I found the one!

"Really good, once you take it apart when do the manufacturers job for them.
When I received mine is barely shot over 250 fps, the cause of this was found to be a piston that wasn't making any seal at all. One decent o ring and a little grease and it's shooting laser straight at 355 fps with .20s. Still less then advertised but near enough to indoor limits that I don't care.
Accepts other brand M4 mags, if that's important to you. However the mags that came with it don't seem to stay in other guns well.

Disassembly is a pain due to the bullpup configuration but fit and finish are otherwise very good. No wobble or loose fitment of parts. Trigger it response is excellent, being microswitch controlled. Though you do feel a little binding of the return spring now and then that's no big deal.
The gun is very back heavy as bullpups tend to be, but when shouldered it isn't noticable for me.

If you're wanting something unique in the sea of AKs and M4s and aren't afraid of a little tweaking on your part this is probably the best bullpup around. Just be ready for everyone to ask what that thing you're carrying is lol

"I have had this gun for a little bit, love the look, love the feel, love how well it handles out of the box.
- Like many people complain about, it doesn’t come with any sights but the top rail has lots of room to put whatever you want on it. I put basic t1 on mine
- The battery space is incredibly cramped as many people have said, what I ended up doing was removing some of the internal webbing and support inside the stock to make more room for a 7.5” skinny 1400mAh 11.1v 20c matrix battery.
- Weight balance is right between the handle and the magazine so it’s pretty comfortable to me. Even with a short grenade launcher on the lower rail, it’s pretty comfortable.

All in all I love it.

"I've had this gun since January of this year. I've gone to about seven Open Play games, in varying conditions and situations. Mostly a mix of woods, and CQB. This thing excels in both! I'll just do the Pro's Con's thing because I've been criticized for previous reviews being too long!

Pro:
- Range and Accuracy is phenomenal out of the box. It's one of the better I've ever seen.
- Since it's a micro switch of some sort, the trigger is perfect for me. The pull is light, and you can hear the reset because it's a button.
- It has Deans connectors out of the box
- It feels sturdy. I've admittedly dropped it, and fallen on it (I'm underweight, but still). Not even a mark or scratch.
- Seems to work well with any mag, except the Lancer mags. But I hate those things because they don't work in any of my M4's, so that's fine.

Con:
-The battery space... If you don't have a small battery, get a few. 1100 sticks at the LARGEST. The space can be annoying to fit back on too.
- Where the Hop-Up adjustment is STUPID. It the mag well. Where you have to take out the magazine. It also technically requires a tool to fit into the mag well and change it. Luckily, it comes with the tool and storage space in the gun. Where the grip is.
- This gun does not come with irons of any sort. I hate that. I feel bad for anyone who doesn't buy an optic with this gun.



Meh's:
- My charging handle broke off just by pulling it back. No HK slaps. Just pulled it back, and it broke. It doesn't do anything to the gun, so it's fine.
- I've heard upgrading can be difficult.
- People say this gun is balanced, but it's not. It's very rear-heavy. Maybe if you get a bigger battery, it'll be balanced, but it is noticeably rear-heavy. That's fine, because the gun just rests in your shoulder, and the rubber pad on the back makes it not move.

What I'll be doing:
So, I've put a foregrip and an Optic on. The optic requires a riser unless it's something like an EoTech or CompM4 style. I've got a CompM4 because I love the look. I've been using PTS EPM's and they work awesome. I'll also be flat hopping the gun, and changing the barrel, and bucking. Both components aren't great, but they'll work until you can change them.

All-in-all, if you enjoy the look of this gun, get it. It's one of the best out-of-the-box guns. Just get a 11.1 1000 battery, some midcaps, and an optic. You most likely won't regret it!

"I bought this in June so I've only played two Ops with this gun so I'll write another review in the future. I've been running .28s but I'm planning on switching to .32 or .36 for a little bit more accuracy. You could definitely use this for a DMR by running .4's. This thing shoots super hot straight out the box so you're gonna wanna break that spring in. I was getting around 350fps on .28s when the fields limit is 340 for .28s

Pros:
- The thing beams people
- Most of the weight is in the rear so its very maneuverable and comfortable to hold
- Uses 5.56 mags
- Gets about 25 RPS with a 11.1 LiPo

Cons:
- Battery space SUCKS A**. I recommend getting two 1100Mah batteries b/c it also eats through batteries like crazy
- Hop up is in the mag well which is no bueno for quick adjustments
- Not a lot of space to work with for upgrades

Other notes: Its really really good and I 100000% would recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their starter gun.

"The Good:
- Great performance out of the box. I was shooting close to what is advertised for FPS. Some people have had problems with compression, but I imagine this was fixed during recent production runs (?).
- Quick change spring feature and deans connector is nice.
- Solid externals. The replica is easy to disassemble (if not a little difficult to reassemble) and is very solid. My charging handle broke after minor use (no HK slaps), but it’s not the end of the world. The important stuff is solid.
- Trigger is great. This replica eliminates a lot of the problems with airsoft bullpups, this probably being the most important.
- Very balanced and maneuverable (as with most bullpups). I play on a woods field with lots of town buildings and small hard cover… having a short profile with a standard length barrel can work to your advantage. The level of balance also means that’s it’s very easy to operate using only one hand (holding an angle with your right hand while doing something else with your left hand, etc.)

The Bad:
- The hop up is challenging to adjust. The redeeming factor here is that the hop doesn’t seem to creep too much, so once you get it set, you’re good.
- Hop up is proprietary and the nub (plastic) is built in so you are not able to use an aftermarket nub.
- Small battery compartment. Buy a couple of 1000mah stick types and you’ll be fine. It is also possible to modify the cavity to fit a larger battery.
- I wish it had QD sling mounts, but definitely not a deal breaker. The mount positions are well placed and provide a lot of options.
- Sometimes the mag gets in the way. I’ve found this to be especially difficult when lying in a low prone position and trying not to “chicken wing” my elbow when peaking out from cover… you almost have to.
- I sometimes accidentally switch my fire selector to semi when it’s in the auto position, especially when firing off-hand. The real steel is only semi, so it does not seem to be designed to have an auto position and that is evident on this replica.

My suggestions if you buy this:
- Purchase a “tall” sight or use a riser - much more comfortable than a low profile sight.
- Definitely purchase an extra battery.
- Upgrade your barrel and bucking. As with anything, this will make a huge difference and is easy to do.
- Run some sort of foregrip. Because the replica is short, it’s a little more difficult to aim accurately from the hip and having extra control helps.
- Prepare yourself for lots of attention. This thing is a looker, and lots of people want to check it out :)

Bottom line:
If you want something that’s going to be easy to upgrade down the line, this probably isn’t it. The good thing is that the performance/quality out of the box is excellent for the price. I found it very easy to adapt to the ergonomics and would highly recommend this if you want something to use your M4 mags with and want something a little different.

"Its a great gun. low profile bullpup. its so much easier to handle with the most of the weight in the back of the gun instead of forward heavy like many other guns. shoots well stock. worst part is the battery space. battery compartment is in the hand guard. You need a slim battery and not too long. I got a 7.4v 3000mah stick but very snug and I did a little modification to help appease battery space with a Dremel. a butterfly battery will probably fit well and it shares a bit of the battery space with the barrel making using say brick type not useable. overall great gun if you like optics instead of iron sights as this has no iron sights. adjusting the hopup is a pain as you have to take the mag out everytime you adjust. But so far my favorite gun I own

"Hey Evikers! - RDB17 Review - Got this back when it was pre-order, so July, I think. Ootb it's a nice gun. Heavy solid feel, good balance, seems very short compared to other guns in my collection. I'll echo what other reviewers mention the plastic hop up (and backwards sticker) and battery space are not great. Just use 1000 MaH 11.1 stick, they fit fine. So far there is no replacement hop unit. Mine was over 400 fps on 20s and easily hopped them. Using 32s now and no problem hopping them . There is a quick change spring behind the butt plate, easy to swap with a few tools. I pulled it apart to swap to a Action Army neo motor and a Lambda 6.01 barrel. Very accurate at 100ft, and still hits the paper at 200ft. The new motor increased rps from 18 to 24. There is a catch with the stronger magnets, it may interfere with the hall sensor on the sector gear if you use a sling with a metal clip on that side point. It took a week or two to figure that one out! The charging handle still works on mine and I've slapped it several times. I'll be trimming that spring just to make the slap not as hard. The four body pins hold it together. Knock them out and it comes apart easy. To really open it up, you'll need a hex bit and some time, there's like 15 screws! Like the PDR-C there are several proprietary parts - cylinder and head are one piece and offset down a hair, trigger, whole gearbox outer, selectors, etc. Generally, this one needs to stay stock or a mild build just to try not breaking proprietary things. There are some mods out there to increase space in the hand guard and even one to cut a new window in the side for the hop adjustment. Both of these involve trimming material on a working gun, so be careful, do your research.

"I got the tan model of the RDB, (which is actually more of a dull green-grey, it doesn't stand out at all) and I am very pleased with it. It performs well, has a good range and very consistent accuracy. However, it has a couple minor issues. First, the hop-up is hard to access, as it is in the magazine well. You can only turn the wheel with a little screwdriver, as you can't reach it with your fingers. The problem with it is that the sticker to show you which way to turn it is backward! You must turn it toward the - for it to hop, and toward the for no hop. Aside from all this, (and a few very confusing moments) it is a wonderful gun, with amazing accuracy.

Mine came with: One 130 rd. AMAG, one 100 rd. AMAG (both ARES), and a screwdriver in the grip. No sights are included, even iron.

Overall, I would give it 9.5/10. Enjoy!

"Excellent replica of the real steel rifle. There are several issues I have with this replica, all easily fixed:

1. Airseal between piston head and cylinder doesn't exist - replace o-ring
2. No ball bearings on either piston or spring guide - replace either/both of them
3. Stock barrel and hop rubber are trash - replace them
4. DON'T USE ANY NEODYMIUM MOTORS ON THIS! The firing mechanism in this gearbox uses a magnetic sensor, and the close proximity of the motor will cause the gun to malfunction when you shoot it if you use a neodymium motor

"For future reference, one of the Evike staff on the live chat told me this gun was positively threaded. It is in fact negatively threaded. Gun is solid and most of the weight is to the rear. But other than that the gun makes for a perfect replica of the M82 Assault Rifle from Killzone 2.

"I'll start with the performance of the gun first, since that's what matters most in my opinion. This gun checks all the boxes for me: fps just below 400, decent accuracy, excellent trigger response, and a rate of fire that leaves nothing to be desired (with an 11.1 volt LiPo, of course). And I can verify that it's compatible with other M4 mags, too; I ordered a bunch of mid-caps from Amazon, and while they don't fit as cleanly as the two that come with the gun, they feed without a problem and stay where they should. I was worried that they would have problems, since they were on the cheaper side, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that this gun is quite flexible with magazine compatibility.
As almost everyone else has said: the hop-up isn't very easy to access, and is a bit inconvenient since you have to remove the magazine and use a flathead screwdriver (or similar long, thin tool) to make adjustments. That said, once you get it set, that complaint becomes a lot less prominent.
My only major complaint is the charging handle; the main body is made from cheap pig iron, and mine broke off less than 24 hours after the gun arrived. That said, it appears that the charging handle doesn't actually serve a purpose on this gun, so in the end, it's just a cosmetic/aesthetic flaw that has no effect on the gun's functionality.
Other than that, the construction feels sturdy and solid. The polymer hand guard/under rail segment has occasionally given me some trouble with detaching and re-attaching when replacing the battery, but once in place, it stays put and feels like it could take some abuse (especially considering that it's polymer).

"Hi, I just got one. And I love it. I am runing a 7.4 lipo with the gun. The gun has a nice look and is well made. I will let you know how it gos.

"My new favorite. I've an Avalon Saber as well as a Kwa Ronin (extended mad bull barrel and a maple leaf hop). This EMG has them both beat right out of the box. It's close between the VFC and this Kel Tec but the build quality of the outer parts goes to the Kel Tec.
My KWA wishes it had the response and accuracy of the Kel Tec.
The 2 downsides to the Kel Tec are the battery storage and access to the hop up. Neither of my 2 other performance aeg have much space for batteries ether but access to the hop up is better on the 2 M4s. The over all performance goes to the Kel Tec easily.
One thing I was pleasantly surprised with is the charging hand return spring was beefed up compared to the one in the video.
Considering the price, you be hard fetched to find a better bang for the buck.

"So far, I'm over the moon with this Rifle. Comfortable weight and sturdy build. Mag release is a little awkward, but that is more because the Mags don't drop free like Live Steel mags would (lighter) but not hard to swap. I'm getting 375 fps w/ .25s out the box and the 11.1 LiPo is kicking 23 rps. After a little tweaking the hop has me getting good accuracy and range, within a few inches at 100 feet where I can shoot it at home.


Con:
The Battery Compartment is not that roomy, or easy to reattach. First real mod I'm going to do is add an external mount for the battery so it will fit a 3000mAh Titan and easy swap.
