Developed in response to NATO requests for a compact but effective firearm for vehicle crews, support personnel, special operations, counter-terrorist units, and crew served weapon operators, the FN-P90 manages to excel in many of the categories FN-Herstal set out to achieve. The futuristic Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) / Sub-Machine Gun (SMG) entered production in 1990 and began service starting in 1991 and is continued to be used by militaries, law enforcement, and special operation groups around the world today. Chambered in the 5.7x28mm cartridge, the weapon far surpassed the 9x19mm weapons in performance and handling. The small caliber boasted greatly improved velocity at only half the weight of standard 9x19mm cartridges thus allowing the user to carry a great deal more ammunition into combat. Additionally, more rounds can be loaded into a magazine thanks to the cartridges relatively small diameter. Due to its incredibly high velocity, the 5.7x28mm cartridge fires at an exceptionally flat trajectory with roughly 30% less felt recoil which greatly improves accuracy even under fully automatic fire. The FN-P90's design came about after extensive ergonomic research; its small profile makes it ideal for tight, confined spaces as well as for personnel who require a concealable weapon. Featuring true-fully-ambidextrous controls, the FN-P90 is the first of its kind to be right handed and left handed shooter friendly without any modification or re-configuring of the firearm. The weapons charging handle, magazine release, and back up sights are symmetrically distributed on both sides of the firearm; the safety / fire control is located at the base of the firearms trigger which can be easily accessed with the thumb or index finger. The weapon also uniquely ejects spent casings downwards away from the users' face which makes for a much more pleasant shooting experience when needing to transition from left to right and vice versa.

The FN Licensed Airsoft P90 accurately replicates the great handling and ergonomics of the real P90 with its fully ambidextrous control layout and comfortable grip. Just like the actual P90, the FN Licensed Airsoft replica consists of a durable reinforced polymer frame with metal barrel and upper assembly. Despite its small size, the P90s bullpup design allows for a considerably longer barrel than most sub-machine gun class weapons for improved range and accuracy. Fast, lightweight, and compact, the P90 is one of the most effective weapons for CQB and room clearing.

"I almost returned this gun in less than a week after I noticed a significant loss of performance hoping Evike will diagnose something and repair it under warranty.

You see, I am always into gas blowback pistols and I can say, I am an expert with its care and function. HOWEVER, I only have two (2) AEGs in my entire lifetime air-softing because I am too scared working on this thing called a gearbox.

___ This FN P90 was performing to my standards and it works as advertised (I shoot at a 6x6 inch wooden box at 150 feet with 0.20g BBs and hits it all the time all) when after what must have been 1000 BBs, shooting power was lost. Adjusting hop-up would not solve any of its issues because apart from erratic trajectory, the BBs now cannot even penetrate a piece of cereal box cardboard from 50 feet. WHAT THE eFF!?!

I hate this thing they call gearbox, I really do. My other AEG is a famous Taiwanese brand starting with the letter G and ends with letter G with and ampersand in between and has been stock since I got it in 2012. It hasn't needed any maintenance up to this day either (apart from barrel cleaning and hop up system care). I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE ME but that gun held its performance rating to this day. AND BECAUSE OF THAT, IT WAS THE STANDARD to which I expected my new FN P90 need met.

And it didn't meet performance... Anymore in just a span of days.

Out of sadness, Evike already cooperated with me after I called them and sent me an RMA and have a shipping label ready to print. BUT in my head, I thought to myself, I think it's about time I learned about this AEG's woeful gearboxes and forget about the warranty. I'll just own up, if I mess up. Because in the end, I do think I really need to learn this thing. My son (yes, I'm a dad!), will be 18 years old soon, and I do think it's best to introduce him to airsoft as part of a healthy and truly sociable hobby. And we can be tag team too!

So before shipping my gun, I went and just open open the back of the gun (very easy with this FN P90) and take the gearbox out. Upon getting the gearbox, I connected it to a battery and did some function check and I noticed immediately one thing... The nozzle isn't moving like it should like I see in videos on YouTube.

Why!?

They mention sector gear, tappet plate, blah blah blah as common problems and with it... a lot of lost pressure and FPS -- the dreadful cause as to why my BBs can't even blow a hole on cereal cardboard box!

Apparently, I am religious to safety clearing the gun before dismantling. So I know no BBs on here before doing any kind of work.

So why all of a sudden a BB fell out of the gearbox I am currently holding on!?
Where did that BB come from... and why is it greasy?! DID THE BB get inside the gearbox!?!?

WELL, GUESS WHAT? There is a significant gap between the inner side of gearbox's metal housing and the front of the cylinder and it seems the BB fell in and sat there for a while. I "simulated" this again when I decided to drop a BB into this gap, and LO AND BEHOLD, the BB sat there like poop on your poop deck which won't go unless you pucker up.

For the case of this stupid BB, it was my turning the gearbox upside down and that BB fell out. It really was like poop as the BB was covered with grease! Eeeewwww!!!!

Well, there you have it! PROBLEM FIXED! Imagine me returning this gun for this simple turn of event? Imagine the pollution it will do had this shipment travelled with the added weight on the UPS truck? Imagine the time wasted by the technician only to find out it was just a stuck BB in the wrong place? Imagine the operation expense this could have done to Evike!!!???

---

PS: So... do I know how to work on a AEG gearbox yet? NO. You can say, I escaped this one and I still do not know how to work on them. Maybe I will, after the Evike warranty expires. Har Har Har!!!

I hope you had a laugh with my stupid experience which could happen to you too! If you notice performance is suddenly lost, get the gearbox out and check if a BB fell on that gap too!

As for the gun!? HANDS DOWN the BEST looking PDW weapon for me with performance to match for air-softing. The thing is so "tiny" it goes straight inside my backpack without the need to separate the receiver and barrel assembly.

"This is good for a P90, although Im not the biggest fan of a polymer build. But don't let polymer fool anyone, its not poor quality at all. It is reliable with fairly decent trigger response, and is better for a beginner not so much advanced. It can be used for fast paced challenging cqb but I wouldn't use it for speedqb or any hyper fast milsim gameplay but it COULD get the job done. It depends on the game and player. But this gun is perfect to start out with

"The gun itself is excellent- it's very compact (smaller than I expected, actually), has a good weight to it (heavier than I expected) and shoots insanely hard. I have not fielded it in any games yet but I did slightly injure a small bird (half-accidentally) with it. The RoF is great. I ordered the Dark Earth with the added 7.4 LiPo and smart charger. When I received the package, it did not include the stock 9.6v battery, but Tiffany from Evike was very helpful in resolving that issue, so one should be shipping to me soon.

Overall, this P90 is an amazing gun for the price- my second AEG and a huge improvement over the first one. The things I don't like: the ironsights (you need a sight for this, preferably a raised one- height is a big issue here), the small capacity of the stock magazine (although the fake bullets look awesome), the small battery space, and the heavy switch on the fire selector.

Note: I bought two of the 170-round midcap magazines off of AirsoftExtreme.com, which was the only place I could find with them in stock. They seem to work fine, although again, I haven't had a ton of use yet.

5/5 stars. A great gun, completed by Evike's amazing customer service. I will continue to recommend them as the best airsoft retailer there is!
