We've played with the idea of making our own ARDs for awhile now. Though a lot of affordable options are on the market already. They seem to be heavily lacking. Many others using similar 3d printing tech have far too thick grids causing distracting results when looking through it with your LPVO at 1x or any red dot sight. They also limit the light gathering abilities of the glass and optic, causing the higher end magnification becoming too dark to use in low-light and twilight hours. As well as making the sight picture far too busy and blurs the image.
Our Ultra Fine - Anti Reflection Devices is easily less than half the thickness of our competitors using MJF and FDM.
Crystal Clear View design, features a larger hex specifically for LPVO's that heavily rely on the use of 1x. Unfortunately any Full ARD is going to mess up the 1x performance on a scope. However, its not really a problem with red dots. Inspired by real snipers throughout history that utilize simple tape on their scopes to reduce their optic's glare. We decided to do the same, but with modern technology. This enables scopes and LPVOs at the lowest magnifications to be utilize with absolutely 0 impact to the image quality and sharpness. However there is still a 85% reduction in glint reduction. For those using an ARD as a lens protector, even if a direct impact happens, it would be located center of the lens which is the strongest area of the lens. Thus increasing survivability. The trade off is a great compromise for visual clarity.
At this time, due to how exceptionally thin we were able to make our grids. We don't believe Red dots require them with this design. The benefit of full lens coverage we believe to be more important. However doesn't mean the design doesn't already exist. We just don't think its worth it with how you normally would aim. As red dots are much more susceptible to glinting due to their coatings than LPVOs and Scopes which maximizes light transparency.
Manufacturer: Umbrella Armory
Specifications:
Material: 3D-Printed Polymer
Compatibility: Designed for 30mm LPVO
Compatibility Note: You can measure your OD of your optic, the ones we test are within these parameters. Having an OD thicker than mentioned by 0.05mm, may result in a very tight fit. Smaller, may be too loose to function properly. Since everything needs to fit within scope rings, scopes tend to be accurately sized and well machined.
Note: Crystal Clear View Grid isn't intended to be used with existing tube extensions/sun shades, as it itself is a sunshade. The extended length, will show the grid in 1x. For maximum clarity, its recommended to install the ARD as close to the objective lens as possible.
Due to how most optic manufactures operate differently. The Crystal Clear View may not be 100% ideal. However on some 'lower' tier optics there will only be a very 'slight' obstruction on the very extreme edges of the sight picture at 1x normally at the furthest edge of the viewable eye box. Due to the design, we can't make specific ones for every variant out there. While enlargement of the center Hex to compensate in our opinion would compromise the performance of the ARD too much.
Constant removal and reinstall may weaken the pressfit ability of the ARD. Though we've toleranced this by using internal ridges to make the ARD more flexible to tightly hug itself your optic, it can wear down. Prior designs before the ridges were exceptionally tight on some optics, but loose on other 'same' sized tubes. Variations in anodizing thickness and overall QC quality forced us to think of a better way to adapt a press fit to multiple variable QC'ed models. We believe our design does just that! OK Srsly if you made it this far reading everything. I want to say thank you. This journey of R&Ding has been extremely fun for me and we're glad to have revisited this concept giving it the UA passion to something so simple. Personally, this grew to an unhealthy obsession which caused me to dive deep into light bending physics and human perception. As well as brushing up on reviewing scope design and how they work. Stuff like objective lenses, exit pupils, diameters, eye boxes, prisms etc.
