"So, as I've owned a GBB-Enabled G36 for nearly a year by this point, I figured it would be prudent to write a review.
For some context: My local field, roughly a year and a half ago, began to sell off their long-obsolete rental guns, which for reasons I have never understood were Umarex-Ares G36KVs. I snapped one up for the low low price of $100, and promptly discovered that the gearbox was in the process of ripping itself apart. Those things are built strong, but not that strong. So, I found myself at a crossroads. I could attempt to find a replacement gearbox (which is expensive) or I could purchase this kit, which is less so. I chose this kit.
I was not disappointed. Unlike the other reviewers, after I removed all the AEG-Bits, I required absolutely no modifications to install the kit. It really lived up to its Drop-In nature, for me at least. I had it installed within an hour of receiving the package, and after firing a couple mags I was stunned. It kicks hard, so much so that it would likely throw off the zero on a lot of lower-end sights, and it is very accurate and efficient considering what I can only assume to be a weirdo hop-up.
As for the Pros:
Shoots hard (I've experienced some variance, but mostly in the 350-390 range)
Accurate (I haven't tested it at extreme ranges, but it is very, very competent for CQB)
Very unique (I know of only three people, including me, who own one. Those other two are the other two reviewers.)
Extremely realistic (it even has G36-Style locking lugs on the nozzle face.)
The FPS Variance is a little extreme. See above.
You run through your mags very quickly (more from the fun factor of shooting than anything else)
The trigger group is a continual worry for me; I have heard of them experiencing issues and it doesn't appear to be too sturdy. However, I have experienced absolutely no malfunctions of any kind.
This is amazing. If you feel like augmenting an already awesome kind of gun, then I recommend this. Magazines, while really good, also happen to be dirt-cheap for GBBs, as well!
"an effortless drop in to the s&t g36 line. no modification needed. just plug and play. the hop up is a pain to get to though. its right under the rail under the charging handle. has a nice kick and ok gas efficiency.
IT TAKES AEG BARRELS- this is awesome!!
i only had a couple gripes with it though...
1. the mag shoots a small puff of gas if you take the mag out when the bolt is locked back.
2. the mag bottom plate slides WAY too easily so be careful
try to not dump the mag in full-auto as it will make the firing inconsistent.
id recommend this to friends because it's unique and you can go pew and feel good about how you didn't spend $300 on a GBBR. enjoy!
"Ok, like the below posted review, I expected this to be difficult. I was right. I bought a boneyard Umarex g36c, and this gas kit. There was a massive amount of modification required, and I am very glad that I own a dremel. The rod part of the kit does not fit at all into the rear adapter, and required a lot of shaving down. Other then that, most of the kit fit fairly well tighter, requiring only moderate modification. I installed a longer tight bore instead of the barrel that came with the gun, and am fairly happy with the result. After greasing the system, and minor adjustments, I am happy with my new Gas G36. I find that mine is particularly gas inefficient in full auto, but very efficient inn semi. the weapon has good kick, a good look, and a solid feel.
