JG Electric Blowback AKS74U Folding Stock with Steel Receiver and Real Wood Furniture

"This gun is literally Jesus. Like I don't know how else to say it, there's actually nothing wrong about this gun, except one tiny hair in the soup: Battery space. Even with the included battery, you will struggle to get the dust cover closed in a way where the wiring doesn't interfere with the blowback system. Also, the hinge on which the dust cover opens isn't quite as durable as one would hope, but as long as you're careful when opening and closing the dust cover, you should be fine. So really, it's just the battery storage that's an issue. Besides that, amazing gun, would recommend. Also, this isn't necessarily a pro or a con, but if you're a smaller player you may struggle with this gun, as it is definitely on the heavier side.

"As far as EBB AEGs go, this is about as good as it gets within the $150-$250. I am not an avid airsoft "player" and instead prefer to plink around, so keep that in mind when reading my review.

After about a year of ownership, here are a few of my pros and cons:

PROS:
- Feels incredibly solid and sturdy, has a nice heft to it.
- Real wooden furniture as advertised, real steel receiver with a very smooth coating.
- Crisp, snappy blowback action.
- Very accurate between 50 and 70ft (~15 and 21m).
- Takes common CYMA/Matrix/TM AK74 mags.
- Period accurate sight mount on side of receiver.
- Very easy to upgrade.
- Acceptable rate of fire, impressive for the tiny 8.4v battery included
- Hop-up is easy to adjust--I actually barely touched the hop-up though because the iron sights are already zeroed for low-medium range.

CONS:
- Bolt only travels about halfway back (during blowback but also by manually racking it)
- Wood is a bit soft and is prone to dents/scratches. That is realistic to a real AKS-74u, though...
- Folding stock is loose in both positions! Again, this is also realistic to the real thing but it's quite annoying.
- Retaining pin that keeps the spring-loaded dust cover in place is prone to popping out.
- Easy to close the dust cover onto the battery wires.
- Cheapo plastic grip with annoying JG logo laser-etched.
- Included hi-cap magazine wobbles A LOT.

You'll notice almost all of the cons I listed are nitpicks. That's because there's really not a whole lot fundamentally wrong with this gun. You should note that it does shoot ~405 fps out the box with 0.2g BBs (at least that was what my chrono averaged), so you need to take that into account if you plan on purchasing it for use at an indoor field.

If you want an instant performer to shred up the field with in CQB (and lots of potential for customization/upgrades), this is a pretty good choice.

If you just want a nice full-metal AKS-74U for plinking/looking cool... you'd be hard pressed to find something better for the money.

"Picked this up on sale (~130) because i needed to satisfy an itch for a 74u. This was my second JG product (the other being their T3 G3 clone) and my first EBB gun. OOB the gun works just fine shooting .20gs out of MAG midcaps, EBB is crisp and fun. BBs drift to the left and the stock wobbles without any straight-forward DIY fix, which are the only two issues I've run into with this rifle. For 200 dollars you'd probably be better off picking up a CYMA if performance and quality are your main concern.

"A very well made rifle! Some minor problems though. They say its an all wood furniture but I think the top hand guard is made of some kind of plastic. Watched a review on the exact same gun!! In the video the guy's flashhider was black and metal but mine was orange and plastic. In the video, it showed an engraved soviet star and serial number on the side, but mine did not have that. MOST (not all) AK magazines will fit but they don't exactly click into place. The electric blowback is a bit finicky too. Tested one shot and the charging handle got stuck like it was jammed. Got it fixed though. Very sleek and seconds looking. Overall, I love it!

"Pros:
High FPS (can be a con for some)
VERY Solid Construction (Mostly steel with some pot metal bits)
Real Wood
Solid Pistol Grip
EBB (can be a con)
Amazing Price
Dovetail Mount
Threaded Barrel

Cons:
Tricky to disassemble as it uses some weird proprietary charging handle guide that is independent from the metal bar that the dust cover button is attached to, sorry if that's confusing, but it is hard to explain, although it really isn't that bad, just tricky
Wood is very easy to scratch and the finish will flake (pro for some)
Low battery space
EBB hard to disable due to previously mentioned charging handle thing
Stock wobbles a bit, nothing major though
Stock mag wobbles
Orange flash hider is extremely hard to remove, literally took me 2 hours
The front sight block on mine came crooked which wouldn't normally be a big deal, but in order to adjust it I HAD to remove the orange tip
Fire selector wont snap into the semi auto position, it will still fire in semi auto, but the actual selector doesn't travel far enough to snap into place

Overall, this is a great little AK, especially for the price. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap, but study gun to run. I wouldn't advise that new players purchase this however as it shoots too hot for most CQB fields and its very hard to disassemble in order to change a spring. But for more experienced players, this is an amazing buy that wont drain your wallet.

"This was my first airsoft AK. I got it because of its low price at the time in combination with real wood furniture. It is great if you're doing a Spetsnaz impression, especially the Spetsnaz in Afghanistan or Chechnya.

Pros
-Sturdy on the outisde for the most part
-Hits hard
-Compact compared to other AK types, so you can carry it in a backpack if you fold the stock
-Shoots pretty far for its size
-CQB friendly
-Great backup gun if you wish to carry two rifles
-Light compared to other AKs
-Accurate for the most part

Neutral
-Extremely sensitive hopup
-Can mount a scope (not that useful to be honest)
-Blowback (you may have to remove it)

Cons
-Loose fire selector
-Battery space is close to none, you can take out the blowback which is what I did, but that kind of defeats the purpose
-Default magazine literally broke for me LOL
-Internals sometimes fail on you
-Bolt broke for me in the field (only a downside cosmetically, I got a replacement)
-Orange tip must be forcefully taken off
-Front hand guard came off so I had to tape it back on

Is this a great gun? No. Is this a good gun? Yes. It's a good starter gun, but not going to lie, I like CYMA way better. If you want a cheap AK and you're a starter I'd say this is for you. Now go cheeki their breeki.

"I am brand new to airsoft, though I'm not young. I read the reviews and thought this would be a solid starter, also being tired of seeing M4s in 3-gun. Not a good start. If it wasn't for the ability to quickly resolve the first listed issue, I'd give this a 2-3 stars.

Pro:
-Solid construction, including stock.
-Looks darned cool.
-Works well for QCB.
-Convincing weight.
-Seems to shoot fine on the short indoor field (all I have access to).

Cons:
-Battery would only hold 15-shot charge with included charger (Buy a smart charger now). If not for Amazon Prime I wouldn't have been able to play that weekend).
-Battery is mediocre even with smart charger. Upgrade quickly.
-Finish mars easily.
-Workmanship on foregrip is primitive (doesn't effect use)

"I have to say JG is really starting to step up there game as far as how well they make their products and I am very pleased. As i opened up the box i found it very nicely packaged, secured tightly with high quality styrofoam. I used it on a one on one in the local woods and it worked like a charm. The ROF is amazing with the battery it come with.......8.4v 1100mah. battery. Due to the high FPS i recommend downgrading the spring if you are a CQB player.

Pros:
-Very High FPS
-High ROF (recommend a Lipo. battery)
-Good Distance
-If you compare other Full Metal AEGS it is light
-Real Wood
-Full Metal
- BLOWBACK!!!!! :)

Cons:
- Only one RIS system i know can work on this AK (UTG)
-The Hop Up is very hard to use.....they over did that

Overall i really recommend you get this gun. My main problem is just finding the UTG rail. Otherwise it is one of the best airsoft guns and could easily be compared to higher end AEG brands. Don't question me it will satisfy you!

"Just got this gun in the mail yesterday. So far it is doing great. The gun looks simply amazing. I am surprised on the quality from a Chinese gun. The wood is very nice. Gun seems to have a decent FPS but I have yet to crono it.

I also purchased a 11.1 volt Lipo stick battery for this gun and have shot 3 full mags trough it with no issues so far. The rate of fire is amazing with this battery. Even on the front of the box it states it is upgraded to handle an 11.1 lipo. How it holds up over time this will have to be seen.

Pro:
- Good ROF even with stock battery better with lipo
- Blow Back
- Good FPS
- Very nice packaging
- Full Metal
- Real Wood
- Good Hopup unit
- Wholly Cow Deal provided this gun with 2 extra mags

Cons:
- Finish on wood and metal could be more durable as it scratches easily.
- BB's shoot to the right about 1ft and there is no wind-age adjustment on this gun. (Reason for 4 stars)

Overall this is a great gun and I would strongly suggest to to anyone looking for a sub 200 dollar gun.
by Matt M. on 12/08/2015
"The gun shoots great, however I HATE the battery space...the flash hider was probably one of the hardest ones Ive ever had to take off, my CYMA scope mount wont fit on this, and the rear folding stock seems to be broken and locked in place, I can not for the life of me pry it open... I dunno, maybe I got a dud, but I was expecting a LITTLE more than what I got, First impressions are not that great so far

"When I received it, it couldn't fire. Evike thankfully gave me a full refund and I decided to go with the CYMA AKS-74U which is feels significantly better and has an amazing trigger response. Five stars for Evike customer service, 1 star for the JG AKS-74U.
