z Israeli Weapon Licensed S&T TAVOR-21 TAR 21 CQC Airsoft AEG Rifle - OD Green (Full Metal Gearbox)
by David S. Date Added: February 6, 2013
I have the "OD Green" version of this gun. It's a good starter gun for someone wanting to try out a bullpup AEG and it takes just a little upgrading to make it a good primary.

The shell is all polystyrene plastic and has a bit a flex to it, especially around the top rail area. You won't want to mount any heavy or expensive optics because of this, even if you get the set of Matrix metal rails for this gun (as I did). The rails mount to a plastic base that's slotted into main frame; there's some play in that whole area. The trigger guard/handle and rear receiver/stock areas are solid though and you can pull the gun in tight to your shoulder without any feeling of flex in the body.

The gun shoots well enough out of the box. With a 9.6V NiMh and .20 BBs I saw around 350fps and 10 rps. I've since put a 115 spring and a 11.1v small type LiPo in the gun and now see around 400fps and 15 rps. The gun handles a LiPo without a problem but I'd probably not go past a 115 spring without giving the gearbox a good going-over.

In full-auto with the 115 spring I get 2" groups at 60' with .20 BBs. Given the barrel length this isn't bad and I'll be using .25's next time I field this to take advantage of the accuracy at longer range.

Working on the gun is pretty simple; pull a pin and the butt-plate swings down for access to the back of the gearbox, where the spring tube and motor are. A spring swap takes only a minute with the right tools. A few bolts and a pin hold the front/top guard and top sight rail in place; they slide out of the front of the frame for access to the barrel mount, trigger and safety assemblies.
