"What is the the range and what upgrade kit would I need and is it good for a starter sniper
by Bryan P. on 05/09/2016
"This is a great gun if you get It upgraded, from what I hear it's not to good stock but I had it fully upgraded so to from my experience it's a beautiful gun - accurate and FPS around 500 . You just gotta put the time into it and You will love it. if you're not looking to put any mods into it then you may not enjoy it.

"Got this gun a week after it was released in the US. So far I love it, great size and super accurate. I haven't fielded it yet since there's too much snow on the ground for the outdoor areas here to be open but overall the gun is lightweight and has a good feel with the testing I have done in my backyard.
I tested it with a 11.1V Lipo battery:
0.25g Elite Force BB's
Fires at 380-395 consistently

- comes with an okay adjustable bipod
- standard mag holds a decent amount of rounds
- super long inner barrel which makes it decently accurate with a dialed in scope
- like other G36's the Hopup was easy to adjust while I dialed in my scope
- only ranged it to 75ft due to a small backyard but I was able to nail a soda can dead on 7/10 shots in a row after zeroing my scope and adjusting the hopup
- Adjustable stock length and cheek risers
- Comes with bb's loading tool, unjamming tool, bipod and manuals

- The last 2-3 bb's in the mag don't feed so you drop a few when you switch. Could be remedied with a different mag or a new hop up
- The big orange tip is going to be a pain to conceal/paint since its integrated with the mock 'silencer'

Overall the gun was a great buy.

"I'm writing this purely from an externals point of view, only. I bought a boneyard gun where nearly every single part was aftermarket and improperly installed and consequently damaged (black motor armature, damaged piston teeth, etc).

Externals are almost entirely polymer, which is nice for weight. It's lighter than my stubby M4 with a G&P aluminum body. I really bought it to upgrade it to a DMR (still a work in progress), but I had some comments regarding the mock silencer. It is removable, as is the orange tip. To remove both (which I did), you need to use a heat gun and then twist it off like normal. You have to remove it while it is still hot, though. . Although the orange cap should stay on unless you have a replacement. I'm using a different flash hider to have a shorter barrel. I'm also using a shorter inner barrel with it. The outer barrel has normal threads for a mock silencer or flash hider, after you get the mock silencer off.

"This is an extremely good gun when upgraded, but stock It's performance could be much better for the price. I recommend a metal hopup. Also, the EBB system tends to lag with an NiMh. The battery that worked for me was 11.1v Tenergy Lipo, made it about as fast as a GBB and really impressive on full auto. I would also say that a mid-cap is a much better mag for this than a hi-cap. The range and accuracy are really impressive with a metal hopup (I use ProWin) and the stock parts. I replaced the piston as well to make it a little more "LiPo-Ready." Does require some work every now and then if you choose to use a lipo. Most scopes don't work well with the rail, its up too high. I'd advise a JG G36 3.5x scope, works really well.

"Good overall. But if you planning on getting this gun, plan on upgrading. I installed a bore-up kit, Madbull TightBore, lonex motor, and R-hop. Shoots wonderfully. Your going to want to get a small battery, I have a butterfly 9.6v in it now, Anything bigger and it pushes up on the outer barrel, which moves the inner barrel, which moves the hop-up slightly down, and then it doesn't feed correctly.

"This gun is pretty awesome but has its downsides. I used had this for a long time and had some problems. I've had feeding problems and the ebb stops working after a while. When it works, its pretty good but I would recommend upgrades. Its honestly lack luster for the price.
Great Externals
Eh internals
Can't remove silencer (super long)
Lack of rails/sights

"The gun came with a couple of factory defects that were eventually fixed some by the store some by me. The first the mag bay wasn't made right but a new mag bay fixed that. The second the hop-up was damaged internally and caused it to lock up due to chipped off plastic floating around inside. Finally the wires were not well connected and easily came off this was easily fixed with some solder. Once the issues were fixed the gun was amazing but it's still gonna have to take a bad review over the defects.

"Out of the box, this gun is terrible. I got it because I wanted something to tech. After replacing literally everything but the stock, trigger, and receiver; it is a beast; really unique; and serves as both a sniper and support. Cost effective? - - No. Practical? - - Hardly. Really cool? - - Yes.

If you are looking for something to tech, this is a great platform, but if you are looking for something good out of the box, look elsewhere.

"I was always looking for a SL9, and was excited this came out. However it did not come close to a performance gun. Here is why:

The barrel is too long, and is only locked down at the hop up area, which means the inner bore in the silencer is moving freely, this give the gun effective range about 20 feet, at 50 feet the shots will become inconsistent. Also the silencer cannot be removed it is one piece with the outer barrel, which means there is no way to lock down the front of the bore.

The plastic on this gun is pretty good, much like other Ares G36s. The trades saying sl9 and the caliber is great too. It uses custom Ares v3 Gearbox with quick change spring and comes with silver wires, which is expected at this price range.

This seems to be a ripped off version of the old SL9, surely it comes with a nice gearbox, but the external seems to be a bit careless. As being said the silencer cannot be removed they are not even trying to make it seem legit. The hand guard is only 4 vent, original SL9 has 6 and some come with integrated bipod.

This rifle was a disappointment to me, and need a lot of work before it can go on the field to play with other gun.

"Very Disapointed over all. The inner barrel is so long (about 15 or 20 mm longer than the 650mm Madbull TB barrel I swapped into it) that the cylinder is not able to push enough air out to fill the inner barrel, this is creating a massive accuracy issue, add this with the fact that the inner barrel is not supported anywhere inside the outer barrel which crates a lot of wobble and this gun has no where near the accuracy of the DMR it's pretending to be. Every single on of my other guns equals or exceeds the range of this gun, including my Cybergun FAMAS and Magpul PDR both of which are build for CQB... what a joke. The feeder tube inside the mag well is also misaligned with the hopup unit creating feeding issues!

There are some pros to this gun, it looks fantastic especially with the addition of a scope (although you wont need one with the lack of range this thing puts out haha) the body is solid and diss-assembly is simple and quick with only a few screws and pins to pull the gearbox, barrel and hop-up. I think it's weight is a bonus although some people may find it to be a little more than they can handle during long exercises. The gearbox is solid and functions well with a 7.4V lipo giving an acceptable ROF for a DMR (again haha) The battery compartment is a little cramped for larger lipos and the lack of extra picatinny makes a PEQ box difficult.

Overall I cannot in good conscience recommend this gun until many changes have been made including adding a cylinder bore up kit, a slightly shorter TB barrel inner barrel that has been stabilized within the outer barrel properly. I have done the second two and it is still not enough to compensate for the low volume of air coming out of the cylinder which is hindering the gun's range and accuracy.
And of course altering of the feeding tube to solve the jamming issue.
