"Grabbed this helmet mostly out of necessity for a spot to mount my Sony Action Cam to capture game footage. My helmet (OD) came with color matched ARC rails, but only the rails, no hardware. I had to purchase ARC rail mounts separately, so keep this in mind if you want the Picatinny ARC rail mount for this helmet.
Helmet has a foam "star" of padding on the top with six foam pads surrounding your head. The foam is very soft (cheap) and very thin. If you have a large head, you should be fine; if you have a small head, you may consider getting foam inserts from a bike helmet to get the helmet snug. The finish and construction of the helmet is great! OD color is perfect, had a slightly grainy finish but smooth to the touch. Durable plastic, keeps BBs from impacting my head nicely. Will fit around comms, and has rail mount space for Peltors, etc. Wilcox NVG mount is out dated and not usable for mounting. I've read in various places that you can order an updated mount used on the FAST helmets that will bolt in, and if you go that route, the helmet is easy to drill as well (I re-drilled my ARC rail mounts because I didn't like how my camera was sitting on the side). Comes with velcro for the top, sides and rear of the helmet, unattached.
The chin strap is made for a small person, most likely a child or someone who is missing a chin. It is pulled to one side, and does NOT fit onto your chin in any way. It's nice faux leather, but it's useless to strap across your chin. I just run it under my chin as a normal strap and it works just fine. The strap material is cheap and should probably be replaced with something more worthwhile from that donor helmet you bought for the padding. Note: My straps have not torn on me at all, and don't show much wear, but the stitching is sloppy and the seams have excess thread.
This helmet does NOT have a dial band adjustment like the FAST helmets--It's just a web of adjustable straps. There is a pad for the back of your head where the dial on a FAST helmet would be, which is comfortable and adjustable.
I did take this helmet out a few times for 9am-5pm gameplay, mixed game modes, urban and woods terrain. I was very happy with how well it sat on my head, especially with goggles and a mesh mask strapped all over my face. It was comfortable all day with the stock padding (I've got a big head evidently) and kept me from having welts all over my head.
Great for mounting gear on your head
Holds those gucci-tactical patches
Chin strap isn't for adults
Strap system is mediocre
Helmet padding is mediocre
If you like the look of the IBH, get it! Just know that it's not an out-of-the-box purchase, and requires some fine tuning, just like anything in life. Once you tweak and tune the helmet to fit/fill your needs and gourd, it's a fine piece of gear. I am very happy with my purchase, but I did have to do some work to make this helmet fit my needs.
"When I first got the helmet I was a little disappointed when I found out it did not look like the picture, the helmet has a lighter od green paint on it and the paint makes it look a little glossy. My helmet came with a few scratches in the inside. And the chin strap fell off but I just screwed it back on.
Looks good with any load out.
Looks pretty realistic.
fits real comfortable when chin strap adjusted right.
Looks good with American flag patches.
Not to heavy.
came with a few scratches inside.
Overall a awesome helmet, Great piece to my load out.
"Very nice, lightweight helmet from Matrix.
Go pro/night vision mount
The chin strap is a little messed up but it isnt that big of a deal.
Doesn't come with mounts for the rails.(Evike sells those)
