"I snagged a refurbished WE-Tech M14 at Evike's red tag sale. It's a close match to my Springfield M1A, but with the bonus of a select fire switch, a rarity even in Class 3 versions. The bayonet lug fits my M6 bayonet perfectly, a feature absent in M1As. Its operation mirrors its real steel counterparts, and it shoots straight, delivering tight groups at 30 yards. No need for scopes here; if you can't hit targets at airsoft distances with iron sights, maybe it's not your sport. This is the airsoft rifle for discerning collectors, especially "senior" ones who value authenticity over add-ons or those restricted to demilitarized M1As. Holding it while watching 'Full Metal Jacket' is an experience in itself.

"Initial Thoughts Review:

It’s currently winter here in Michigan so the following testing/review is based on a week that mild weather was introduced: 45*F, windchill at 35*F with slight wind.

To start off, this gun is about as heavy as its M14/M1A counterpart. Compared to other battle rifles in its GBBR class, this one takes the cake in weight. Keep that in mind. After having used an M14 that was turned into a DMR in the military, I’m pretty used to the platform. What I found interesting is the amount of steel that WE put into this rifle. After watching many YouTube video reviews (which show the complete opposite of the 5-star average reviews on here), I was apprehensive on getting this. I’ve owned many WE guns and the out of box accuracy consistency has always been trash. However, this model from WE is a different beast.

Before taking this out to your range to test it, take it apart and clean off the grease WE used and use your own. I have great results with Super Lube grease, but normal CLP works as well (just don’t get it on o-rings or other rubber parts). Watch disassembly videos on YouTube. Watch Brownell’s YouTube channel on how to properly lube a M1A and adjust the instructions to apply to the airsoft M14. Clean the barrel thoroughly until the patch isn’t coming out black and also make sure to completely clean off the bucking. WE’s factories seem to be rather bad at cleaning these parts after manufacturing. ***cleaning the barrel AND bucking prior to testing is important!***

Adjusting the hop up is a pain. You have to field strip the gun and use a small Allen wrench (which wasn’t provided by WE) to adjust. The placement is on the right side of the gun, under the charging handle and tappet plate. When adjusting, you will feel very small clicks which makes it feel like it’s adjusting slightly. Don’t be fooled, each small click is more than it feels. However, you’ll still be able to get the perfect spot for your hop without issue. Bucking break in period is about 100-200 rounds. Try to shoot that much before changing the bucking because once a bucking is broken in, it has better performance. This gun without hop was barely dropping .4g BBs. I didn’t try anything lighter than that. When I put .45g Madbull BBs through it, the range, accuracy and consistency out of the box was absolutely mind blowing to me since it’s a WE and that’s not usual for me.

My readings:
1.45 - 1.55J with .45g Madbull BBs
(This does not have the “500FPS” nozzle installed)

I tried blue can propane from Bernzomatic…it seems to run cleaner than the camping green cans…not sure why. I have done testing between the two and I clean the barrel less often with the blue tall cans. Using MAPP gas (yellow tall cans), it shoots far less consistent on the chrono, but accuracy/range didn’t seem impacted between the two gas types. However, recoil is much harder with MAPP.

My trigger unit hasn’t broke so far with 500 rounds through it, but I’m sure I’ll need to go with RA Tech sooner or later.

This rifle comes with a 4-prong orange tip and DOES NOT come with a flash hider. Ridiculous. So if you get this, make sure to buy a flash hider as well. It also didn’t come with a manual. It came with a card with a QR code to get to the manual, but it’s trash and only tells you what to and what not to shoot at along with a parts diagram. I like the parts diagram, but I think it should show operation of it for people not familiar with the M14 manual of arms. If you buy extra mags, none of mine came with the extra spring. The current spring in the mag holds about 25 rounds.

Conclusion:
If you’re looking to get a GBBR and like the M14, keep in mind that hop adjustment can’t be done on the fly, but it holds position well. It’s heavy, but that’s expected. The range and accuracy is phenomenal.
Do I recommend it? I couldn’t recommend it any more than I already am.

"Rough around the edges, but WE brute forces their way to something good with this.
You must buy the RA-Tech full-steel trigger unit, toss the original in the trash and you have yourself a reliable weapon that will perform for years to come.

"I mean, sure, it's an m14, so it's nice, it's also a gas blowback, and that's good and all, but there is one more thing.

One thing about this gun that cannot be eclipsed.

The price is dank m8

"I purchased this about a year ago and with one major exception, it's been an excellent replica of an M14.

This gun is HEAVY, and I am no weakling myself. It is by far the heaviest of any of my AEG/GBBR's, and that's without any optics. It would be pretty difficult lugging this thing around all day, and its length makes it impractical for CBQ scenarios. Due to its weight and length, it's difficult to aim down on your target quickly. A sling is pretty much mandatory.

However, once aimed in, this gun is VERY accurate. Out of the box, this is the most accurate of all my GBBR's. I am more accurate with this gun on iron sights than I am with other guns with scopes, and that's with the stock barrel and bucking! With the enhanced high output nozzle, this GBBR is also by far the hardest hitting. It works well with all bb weights but obviously with a gun like this, the heavier ammo the better. There is little magazine cool-down. I can get two mags (40 rounds) out of one fill and haven't pushed it beyond that. I imagine with the heavy bolt and rotating cover that it moves, this gun is somewhat of a gas hog but I'm happy with two mag's worth. The gun loads reliably without damaging the bbs. I never experienced a jam (unlike my GHK AK's, which required quite a bit of mod work to load reliably).

A couple of things I didn't really like: the polymer stock, although heavy and very sturdy, looks and feels somewhat artificial (which it is). You can replace it with a real wood stock, but that gets pricey and they are hard to find in stock. I bought a real M14 surplus stock for $25 but have not modified it to fit yet. Another weak area is the heat shield. It looks completely out of place and frankly, fake. However, that is easily remedied by sanding, priming, and spray painting it a flat black (or whatever color you choose).

The bolt catch/lock-back works reliably during operation. However, it doesn't replicate the real M14's action when the bolt is pulled back manually. There are "real M14 bolt" parts from RA Tech which will fix this oversight, and they are not too expensive.

The receiver is unmarked, meaning it is not laser etched with the "U.S. Rifle/Springfield Armory" details. A marked steel upgrade from RA Tech is available but will run over $400 before discounts, so that's unfortunate.

But by far the biggest flaw with the M14 is the trigger box. I don't know what the designer was thinking, but you could not draw up a more fragile design. The housing comes in two pieces which will separate with time as you use the gun. Eventually, it'll fail (estimates run from 1,000 to 3,000 rounds). There have been reports of it causing accidental discharges as it deteriorates - a very dangerous situation with any gun. There are fixes for this, but I just went ahead and bought the RA Tech trigger box. It is pricey at $200, but there usually is a good discount coupon on Evike, making it the cheapest place to buy this item. The RA Tech unit drops right in and is more smooth than the stock unit. The trigger itself is slightly rounded and feels more comfortable. This is really the only upgrade you will need for the WE M14, and it's really worthwhile.

In summary, the WE M14 is an amazing performer. It is very hard hitting and extremely accurate. There are some things which could have been done better aesthetically, but they are fixable. Internally, the trigger box must be replaced at some point (or fixed, if you have welding skills). This gun is a real conversation piece and I would say it's very unlike any AEG or even GBBR.

"I got this M14 over the summer along with a WE tech AKS74UN and i got to say it is a fantastic rifle, even though I had a small problem with it wobbling, it was easily solved. If you want a rifle that is great at range and is a select fire dmr, or if you want a rifle to complete your Vietnam war load out, or to just have a retro gbbr, then this is a rifle you should look into, and if you don't like the barrel length, RA tech has a socom barrel kit for around $90 other than that, great rifle, great high school grad present and rock on WE tech!
I forgot to add that this is also a long rifle and a bit heavy, and I'm 6'3" and 135 pounds, so I have no problems handling it, but if you're a little smaller, you should double check into it.

"I bought this gun at the super store, been to the field twice with it and holy cow is this the best airsoft gun i have ever owned. Ive been playing for 8+ years and now getting out of the AEG's and into the GBBR's. My favorite rifle is the M14 (M1A) and i have the G&G v7 AEG. I decided to get away from my GBB G&G shorty M4 and go for a nice long range rifle. I knew about WE tech and the cheap materials they use to dub down the price of the guns but i couldnt pass up a GBB M14....i just couldnt. I bought it and fell in love. Many many videos i have seen have the gun sound like a high pitch kind of punch to it.....but no, this thing is terrifying to be on the other end, it makes such a vicious noise, its scary. Stock barrel, .20g, green gas.....388, not bad for out of the box. But i got the RA tech steel 540mm inner barrel, NOTE! If you are going to get the RA tech inner barrel, you HAVE to get the RA tech hop up bucking, the stock WE bucking is too big so your hop up unit cant slide back into the tube and back onto your gun. With the new inner barrel, shooting propane and .28g, its at around 380-390 fps, perfect for fields and perfect for being an effective DMR. I wish they made black .28g because you cant see them and to see the sudden surprise is priceless. So far so good, about 1000 rounds have been shot and not a single problem. THIS GUN IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS, i was having trouble understanding the break down process so i can take care of the gun properly, and for someone who is new to GBBR's or airsoft in general, it would've been a black abyss. Best part by a mile, more better than the price, price for mags and the nice accuracy is the......kick back. This thing has some pretty substantial kick back for a 12 lb rifle. I would have to say other people have said this thing is about the same kick as a .22 LR, but i say its more like a .9mm. All in all, this gun is pretty amazing, i love it. Im never going to buy another rifle ever again. But i must say to any new person to airsoft / GBBR's, this gun is NOT for you, unless you're the kinda person who takes it to a shop to get it fixed.

"Decided to go the Milsim route and saw things GBB. Just received it today and was immediately impressed. The build quality of this guns is just amazing. I have had between 30-40 different airsoft guns in my time and 8 years of playing and this by far is the best most solid one I have ever seen. We-Tech GBB series is the route to go if you want Milsim.

Pros- Solid Build
Great kick
Realistic feel
Weight Balance
trigger pull
Break down
The List goes On and On

Cons
Flash Hider was damaged upon delivery not even a big deal already have talked to Evike. So not even really a issue or Con.

I never really review things I buy but I was very Impressed with this. Also a Big thank you to Evike and there sales team. I was on the phone with them last week and early this week ordering alot of stuff to get back in the sport and they were very resourceful and helpful when it came to questions I had. Haven't changed in the years I have been out and that's good to see. Have earned my business again and will continue in the feature.

"This is less of an airsoft gun and more of a real rifle, its built like a tank and the sound is like music(only louder). It is very powerfull and surprisingly accurate even when the hopup isnt adjusted. However I was actually expecting to be heavier with all the reveiws for the normal version of this gun complaining about weight, I actually find the weight perfect.

Pros:
powerfull
good weight
super realistic
accurate
good fake wood

Cons:
mag is a different color (matches my sling perfectly though so i don't care)
giant ugly flash hider (I just painted it black)
the heat gaurd is really shiny and unrealistic compared to the gun
by Evan G. on 12/13/2012
"So first of all this gun is about the coolest thing ive ever seen. Right out of the box it just amazed me the only problem with it is that it is not a wood stock you can get one on evike though for a 100 dollars.

PROS:
realistic
built to last unless you screw around with it
accurate
if you put a sniper scope on it you can still use the iron sights
shoots really hard
good fps
recoil is insane

Cons:
to be honest it was a lot heavier than i expected but hey, thats what makes it just that much cooler.
by Daniel V. on 06/21/2012
"I bought this rifle for my collection. It looks wonderful and the attention to detail is outstanding. It is heavy but so is the real M14. I pretty much am leaving mine bone stock except for a leather sling and M2 bipod. My only issue was a tight trigger but fixed that pretty easily. One thing, the trigger group is very much like the real M14. It is so close that the only BIG difference is the hammer for the gas system was added. That is just cool.
by Chrissa S. on 05/15/2012
"Love this gun! When taken out of the box I was overwhelmed at the realism and the kick is awesome!
8/10 cause mags are pricey but worth it don't be scared to buy extra mags you will need them!

Pros
Recoil
All metal
Faux wood is good
M14!
Accuracy

Cons
30 round mags
Pricey for only 30 rounds
some pot metal
by Jerry S. on 05/02/2012
"This gun is amazing the mag had a leak in it but it can be fixed take of the bottom plate and tighten the two biggest screws and it should stop any leaks the rest is the best I've had ever I installed the 500 fps upgrade and didn't get to shoot it yet so hope it works.
by Joseph N. on 04/24/2012
"Got this a couple of weeks ago and thought I would put in my two cents.

Pros
_Recoil was way more than I was expecting...VERY impressive
_Heavy - but in a good way
_Build quality is rock solid

Cons
_Faux wood stock is quite underwhelming, I would advise getting a real wood replacement and painting the stock "stock" white (assuming WE ever comes through on the M14 CO2 Mag)
_Not exactly a straight shooter out of the box. Veers to the left (even after barrel cleaning). You might need new bucking, barrel, etc...

Conclusion: quite happy but will take may take a bit of work to get it up to speed
by Daniel O. on 03/14/2012
"This is a fantastic rifle. I am extremely happy with it even though I have been able to sight it in properly at the moment. The speed loader provided is a bit unorthodox. Also, after several take aparts and reassembles the trigger lock has become very rigid. I have oiled it but I have even gone as far as filing the 90 degree edges on the hammer and hammer catch so that they slide easily. also, the main body is a tad loose. so you can actually push the upper forward about 1mm. no biggy, but I've studied the rifle up and down and own a real m14, so I couldn't help but notice.

Pros: most everything. a real eye turner and makes you feel like a boss.

Cons: nothing worth mentioning.

have fun, aim, play well.

cheers
