"Was 5/5 stars while it worked, extremely good externals matched by pretty good internals. I was able to use it for about 2 hours then the gears got completely stripped and was no longer able to fire at all. I was using a 9.6v stick while putting the gun under minimal pressure (short bursts no longer than 3 seconds with some semi fire). A $100 gun should work longer than this did. About 10 minutes before breaking I was praising E&L to the players around me saying how good of an AK they can build... According to other reviews of E&L they are still a great brand and don't let this deter you from buying, I'm sure I just got a dud. I plan to bring it into my local shop for repairs, hopefully they can get it back to where I had it for the first 2 hours of use.
"Just got this gun in the most recent BOA (May 2017) and boy I was not the happiest camper when I received yet my 3rd and 4th AK from a mystery box. After getting over my disappointment I decided to open up the box and try it out. The packaging of the rifle has to be some of the worst I have ever seen, I've seen Nerf guns packaged better than this one but the gun was not damaged at all. Like the previous review you'll be greeted by a strong smell of grease and oil, which was a welcome surprise. I picked up the rifle and was astonished by the weight and incredible feel. The steel and real wood feels great and is very comfortable to hold. After my battery was charged I wanted to see if the internals would be on par with the externals. My first few shots were to hone in the hop-up, after I got it set I was amazed by the accuracy for a stock rifle, by far it was the most accurate out of the box airsoft gun I've shot. Then the feeding problems arose. The rifle was constantly jamming and miss firing with different mags, after cleaning the barrel, different batteries and different bb's. Nothing changed until I decided to lube the feeding tube and hop up, then It shot perfect in semi and full auto. Mine shoots around 17 rps with a 7.4v stick lipo (9.6v stick is a tight fit, but works) and about 344 fps with .25 g bb, perfect for me. Only downside to this rifle is there is NO spot to mount an AK scope mount so you're stuck with irons unless you get a dust cover with a rail, which can be a bit wobbly. Overall this rifle is amazing out of the box, great for all levels of players.
"First let me start off this review by saying, if you are into shooting real rifles, and you're into airsoft, there is no better AK that will model the real thing.
Exterior: This rifle is as close to an AK as I've seen from any airsoft rifle. The receiver is thick, the furniture strong and built out of real steel parts, everything about the body of this gun is perfect, flawless. The last time I was this impressed with the quality of a gun I bought, it was with the real thing. You open up the box and are greeted with the scent of oil, lubrication, and grease. Nothing smells more like an AK, and if you're familiar with AKs, you'll fall in love with the first smell. Some of the tolerances are a little too tight in my opinion. Getting the muzzle break off is impossible, and getting the dust cover on is the worst thing ever, It will stay on once it is on, but oh man, until it snaps into place prepare for frustration. The tube for the battery is really tight, so be careful because you might shave the battery if you don't place it in right. Overall, If you want the most accurate build you can get, get an E&L.
Interior: I'll start off with the good. The barrel is fantastic, it's a tightbore 6.05mm barrel, and it is extremely tight. If you take the time to adjust the sights, and work on your aim, you'll have no issues. The Hopup is great, but not perfect. If you plan on modding your E&L, the hopup shouldn't be the first thing you change, but it is great. The spin adjustment is easy to use, and it's just great. The Gearbox is where the E&L let me down a bit. There's a bit of leakage in the piston, the gearbox shell is fine, but internall it could use some work, pretty much everything minus the trigger. The trigger is snappy, but minus that if you don't mind some tech work, I'd recommend it. The motor is above average, but again, if you want perfection, and upgrade is recommended. It also has a fuse built in to prevent the motor from shutting down, but with a AK this quality it's not necessary. I'd recommend bypassing the fuse and hooking up deans connectors for a perfect circuit. But for the price, the internals are on point.
Extra information: The magazine it comes with are great, but it takes some practice changing magazines, the mag well is kind of hard to work. If you're in the dark trying to change magazines, you'll have trouble. The trigger guard tore up my finger, so if you have big hands, the grip won't suit you well, but that's the same with real steel AKs so I'm not complaining. Fire selector can sometime not work correctly, but that goes for most airsoft AKs so just be prepared for that.
Overall, boy do E&L know how to make an AK! I wouldn't even say it's an airsoft gun. I'd say it's a AK74 chambered in 6mm, It's that good. When you open the box, you'll be greeted by gun smells, real cleaning kits, real grease containers, the whole 9 yards. If you want a real Kalashnikov, that shoots 6mm BBs, buy this rifle. If you want a gun that is great stock, but can use a couple of small upgrades, buy this rifle. If you want the perfect airsoft gun, this isn't the gun for you. If you want the perfect AK74 chambered in 6mm. Buy. this. gun.
