The all new APS Silver Edge Gearbox utilizes a unique polishing technique to remove burrs and surface imperfections from the gearbox shell. "Finally had a chance to put this gun through its paces during a two day event.
The gun is nice and heavy, feels solid. No noticeable wobbles on any of the parts. The rail is solid, and it looks great (I got many compliments on the look of this gun!), it also includes 3 sections of keymod rail that can be moved around to accommodate different attachments. The canted sights are cool as well, but I think are more for looks than functionality. But looking cool is a good thing.
The charging handle can be pulled back and using the paddle can be locked in place to adjust the hop. I LOVE this feature as typically you are pulling back on the handle to keep it open as you adjust the hop, which can be awkward. This saves some awkwardness, and the fact that you can lock the "bolt" back like on a real M4 style weapon is pretty cool. I do feel however, that the charging handle has a flimsy feeling, and it might be the first thing that breaks if you get crazy with it.
The trigger response feels a bit slow, and the skeletonized speed trigger isn't curved enough for my taste. Trigger pull just doesn't feel as natural or fluid as other guns. In semi, the gun has a tendency to feel like its struggling to get a shot out. On a few occasions it "locked up" when firing semi, and I would have to switch it to full auto and cycle the gearbox a few times to fix it. Kind of frustrating but not enough for me to return the gun, as overall it performs well.
The range on this is excellent, I chrono'd at 360fps at the start of the day, but I will say that the accuracy isn't great. I was adjusting the hop all day, for some reason just couldn't find the "sweet spot"... I would say if there is any portion where this gun could use some attention, its the hop up. Its not terrible, but I think it could be better with a few upgrades!
The gun features electric blowback, which I do like, however those tend to break quite often, but so far so good on this one. The blowback is loud and has a nice distinct "clack!" sound when fired, I also got many comments on that, the sound itself was intimidating (one player: "ouch, I hope he's on our team"). If you are looking for a quiet, sneaky gun... this is not that gun. People will hear you and figure out where you are pretty quickly when shooting this bad boy.
I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 due to the fact that the gearbox locks up sometimes in semi, that could be a big deal in a firefight, but if you are running full auto I don't think you would have any issues.
Overall this is a very nice gun, that could be an awesome gun with some upgrades to the hop up. Its fun to shoot, its loud, and it just looks awesome.
"I have had this rifle for less than a year and its working very good, its solid, sturdy, and it shoots hard. The only recent problem was the hopup arm broke so i got a GnG unit, because the APS hopup unit was reviewed badly, but other than that it has a great range and good accuracy, great beginner to intermediate rifle. It is full metal, heavy, but realistic. The 45° iron sights are nice to have in short range situations.
- Wonderful range
- Good accuracy
- Solid, sturdy, nice bearing weapon
- Realistic and a stunning platform
-Smooth firing (no jamming problems)
- Easy to dissasemble
- Hopup unit has little quality
- If you cant do heavy or loud i dont suggest this rifle
-average firing rate
OVERALL this is a great beginning weapon for the budget and it is a full auto dmr beast. Only problem is hopup unit, keep up the good work APS/HAKKOTSU
"Just got this gun about a week ago, and I must say, fantastic.
Pretty accurate @ 100 ft (used .25 g bbs)
45 degree flip up sights let you use magnified scope or red sights and iron sights at the same time
Grip is gritty for nice gripping (also a con, as it is sandpaper esque and can hurt if not wearing gloves)
Cheap plastic stock
Charging handle looks like it would easily break or fall off
Orange tip/muzzle break thats comes on the gun can be a bit difficult to take off.
grip (see above)
Since I had some trouble taking off the orange tip/muzzle break, I will let you guys know how I did it.
To get the keymod railing out, I had to actually take off the orange tip, because it was too thick for it to slide off with it on. You will see what Im talking about when you try.
So, I boiled some water, and soaked the plastic tip for 10 mins, and then plied it off. Then, I was able to take off the keymod railing. After that, there is a super small hex screw that keeps the mock muzzle breaker in place, so take that out, and then you can get an adjustable wrench and twist it off. I bought a "APS RT-S Muzzle Mock Suppressor" from this site, and it fits the barrel stablizer, so you won't need to take it off, (if you get a larger mock silencer, u can take it off as it does not need it.)
+ I would probably get a vertical grip or an angled one I got the (Magpul USA AFG2 AFG II Angled Fore-Grip 2 ) because this thing is heavy and you will get fatigued.
