"I received this rifle three days ago and my immediate first impressions are nothing short of sounding like a Star Wars geek that waited the 20 odd years since Empire for something that would be a complete game changer. The fit and finish are second to none and could easily pass for aero-space worthy. The key mod slots are all neatly finished. There are no sharp nor jagged edges. All of the individual components line up as though the whole gun was cut from one continuous piece of aluminum. You can literally feel the quality of the construction materials - the aluminum appears to be 7075 and ICS clearly elected to use a super high density polymer where the parts aren't made of metal rather than brittle feeling ABS plastic, all of which inspires confidence for those of us who live in a colder climate (like Michigan) and don't have many options to play indoors. As many other reviewers have pointed out, different brands of magazines don't all fit so hot. My Elite Force mid-caps that seem to work great in every other M4 based gun barely activate the catch in this. Fortunately I had a brand new pair of KWA 120 round polymer mid-caps nearby and those fit and feed as well, if not better than the included ICS hi-cap magazine. My only legitimate beefs with the 'APE thus far are 1) they spec out "small stick type" lipo battery as required to fit. This may be more on the retailer's end though. The battery I ordered to go with it, a 1500mah stick battery, was roughly an inch too long to fit in the stock. Thankfully I had a little 400mah 11.1v battery lying around that fit right in and allowed me to run the rifle and get plenty of test firing in. Hopefully Evike will be good enough to allow me to exchange the 1500 for something that will fit. 2) Parts availability appears to be kind of sketchy. The 'APEs have a small handful of proprietary parts offered by ICS but I can't seem to find them available for purchase in the States. For instance I would really like to buy the shorter barrel and take advantage of it's quick change system and be able to transform it from effectively a DMR to a CQB rifle.
All in all an incredible weapon with great performance and engineering that borders on artwork.
I took nearly a year to convince myself to splurge for this moderately pricey AEG but it has already proven to far exceed my hopes and expectations. As a side note, I bought a mock suppressor to go with it. Yes, I am aware this voids the warranty but I truly didn't want to dumb down the superb craftsmanship with a cheap piece of blaze orange plastic dangling from the tip.
While trying to remove what I expected to be a little 1.5mm grub screw my wife noticed it was actually a small roll pin locking the factory flash hider in place. I gently drilled it out and the flash hider unscrewed with minimal resistance. The APE now looks like a million bucks. I would and will recommend this gun to anyone interested in stepping up their game.

"So I have had this ICS CXP APE for about 3 months now and have skirmished with my friends on my 140 acres about 5-6 times and they are all very intimidated by whomever is using this gun as I like sharing. But onto the review, I must say this is the nicest feeling gun Ive ever owned or held at my local store, one being a MAGPUL ACR, which is sort of what this model is based off of.
Pros:
The handguard/rail system is very unique and the 3 included keymod rails make it easy to attach whatever you desire
Good iron sights are hard to find but ICS executed these very well with Masada/ACR style sights
Barrel length is that of a standard M4
Full lightweight high strength aluminum body (upper, lower, keymod rail system, outer barrel)
Excellent hop up system and stock range/accuracy (I threw in a Madbull 6.03 363mm because i play at longer distance)
Hop up is numbered an has an ingenious design
The stock is similar to a SCAR design and has 5 cheek positions and 6 length positions
The split gearbox is the best part about this gun because you can easily check you internals by removing 1 pin and even buy a whole new upper gearbox and barrel to switch from field to cqb play, very excellent well thought out design by ICS
Cons:
Only one, battery goes in the stock and there in limited room as i run a 9.6 nunchuck which only allows stock position 3-6 to be used for me, I had an incident with Li-po about 2 years ago where I was just starting my game in the field as normal, sort of taking semi auto shots once every 2-3 seconds and my battery just exploded in my stock and ruined my gun and burned my arm, it was a 75 degree day, relatively new battery and I had played a game just before this one where i barely shot so my battery hadnt overheated, still have no idea what caused it, but I will not use Li-pos and that is what the stock is designed to fit but it doesnt bother me too much
Overall review: Best gun I have ever bought and exceeds all expectations straight out of the box, 11/10 would buy a million times over
