The WE-Tech / CQB Master 1911 MEU pistol is the perfect classic side arm with a touch of modern. This famous pistol design has over a hundred years of heritage and has seen service with US Armed Forces since the year 1911. To this day the 1911 pistol is a favorite amongst military, law enforcement, and civilian shooters alike; from its comfortable ergonomics to its ultra crisp trigger. Not much was needed to improve upon this classic design, but the MEU does include a few quality-of-life enhancements to make this pistol more enjoyable. The MEU changes include adjustable Novak style rear sight, slip-resistant molded rubber grip, enlarged beaver tail, enhanced slide serrations, and ambidextrous safety make up the list of subtle alterations to this classic.

It is a good idea to let your magazine return to regular temperature before using it again for optimized performance.

"I hate to spoil the ridiculous string of uncritical 5-star reviews, but it's extremely apparent that this gun was designed by someone who doesn't deeply understand the design and use of a 1911. And it's equally apparent, from the glowing reviews, that your typical airsofter is more interested in real-life COD than in any sort of functional training, which is especially ironic given the "Professional Training Equipment" blazoned on the box.

First of all, I will say that the gun functions reliably, and so for that it gets 2 stars. The rest of my criticism is negative, however.

Before I begin, I'd like to mention that, when I brought my complaints up to an airsofting friend, he suggested that I would need to buy a seriously expensive (e.g. as much as a real 1911) replica to get what I expect. That may be the case, but as an engineer and someone who does deeply understand the 1911 design, the reason this gun fails is not because it would make it significantly more expensive to have designed it properly. Indeed, each of my criticisms could have been resolved at no additional manufacturing expense, had the design upon which this model is based actually been understood by the WE designers going into it.

It's clear that the market incentive to get details right in the first place isn't there, based on the reviews, but I bought this gun hoping it to live up to the claim of "training equipment", and it simply does not.

Firstly - and this is by far the most serious problem that prevents this from being an acceptable trainer - the slide locks back on an empty mag (which is good), but the only way to then drop it is to manipulate the slide stop lever. I understand that airsoft kids' experience with firearms is via COD, and in games everyone always uses the lever because it looks cool, but that is not the way I (or for that matter most) users train with a real 1911. The better technique is to grasp the slide overhand, pull it back and release. This is because 1. this manual of arms works with all slide-operated handguns, whether they lack a slide stop lever, or even a slide stop outright, and 2. using the stop as a release lever will eventually wear and round the angled surface against which it catches, causing unreliable hold-open. Using the stop as a release was originally intended as a backup technique, for use by cavalry or someone with an injured support hand, but from the design is it grossly apparent this was not envisioned as the primary means. On the WE 1911, pulling and releasing the slide can not drop the slide. A cursory inspection reveals that the cause is the fact that the slide should be allowed to travel another 1/8" or so, and more importantly that the tang which engages with the slide is too narrow so that it does not come close to the forward sloped surface (which is designed to push the stop down and out of engagement with the slide). This is unlikely to cause excessive wear due to the extremely weak recoil spring as it would on a real 1911, but it prevents training with the preferred manual of arms, and for no reason other than ignorance on the part of the designer, and the refusal of the airsoft community to hold their equipment to the standard of realism which they imagine they already have.

On a real 1911, thumbing back the hammer pushes down on and disengages the grip safety, allowing one-handed decocking. This manual of arms has fallen out of favor, but this functionality is explicitly mentioned in the original patent, and the only reason it isn't present here is, again, ignorance on the part of the designer, and refusal of the airsoft community to demand proper function. The failure of this functionality here is purely a dimensional issue, one which could have been resolved initially at zero cost had the design been understood and appreciated.

The designer thought he was more clever than John Moses Browning (ever once thinking this is a clear indication that you fail to understand something), and added a flange to the recoil spring plug which keeps it captive. This prevents the proper (and easier) disassembly procedure, and is entirely superfluous.

The gun is overly large in some critical dimension (most likely the blend between the trigger guard and forward dust cover), such that it causes poor fitment in and stretching of holsters which work fine for multiple manufactures of real 1911s.

My final complaint is irrelevant to the real 1911, but an issue nevertheless. The plastic follower in the magazine has an absurdly short tab which is difficult to pull down on without long, girly fingernails, and which does not engage affirmatively in its locking notch/recess. This means that it's all too easy to accidentally cause the follower to slam up against the top of the magazine with the full force and travel of the spring, and this *will* eventually break the chintzy plastic follower, ruining an otherwise substantial and expensive magazine.

Also, I challenge any of you to find a modern, tactical 1911 with a lanyard loop mainspring housing.

"I have been waiting a while to make this review as i got this item 2 and a half years ago for my 13th birthday.
I did not buy this on Evike but rather at my local store (Prefair) because i live too far and the shipping currency change would end up costing a fortune.
I paid 220$ CAD (210$ USD) and, in the box recieved the pistol, one silver green gas mag, one extended barrel (about 2 inches longer than the receiver), one mock suppresor and the instructions manual.
The gun itself is actually very good quality especially from we-tech and is full metal. Disassembly is very easy and standard for 1911 models. Adjusting the hop-up is fairly simple as well. The only problem is that sometimes, when you shove the mag in too fast in the magwell the catch doesnt do its job and the back of the mag stops the slide from going forward. This is stopped by simply getting a better spring in the magazine catch or by manually pushing down the mag from the top of the slide.
The two mags i own for it have no leaking issues but, however one of them had its follower break after i had dropped it whilst trying to reload and i had to replace that, for a cost of 5$. The other mag had one of the pins holding the baseplate break when i dropped the mag in the grass so beware of letting the mags fall and just get a dump pouch.
With .25 bb's and enough gas to go through about 20rds i get 325-ish on my first few shots and drop to 300 on my last shot. if i wait for the gas to reheat however, the shots dont drop lower than 315 fps.
I only wish that we-tech provided the following pieces/items:
Metal magazine follower
Metal Magazine lips
Extended magazine
Stronger Magazine catch spring
