Armee-Universal-Gewehr (Universal Army Rifle) or AUG is a futuristic assault rifle developed during the 1960s in Austria to replace the aging 7.62mm FAL automatic rifles in service at the time. Often considered as the first successful bullpup rifle, the AUG was indeed well ahead of its time as far as concept and design; it was highly advanced when it first went into service in the late 1970s.
Its bullpup design which moves the core of the rifles action behind the trigger allows for the use of a full length rifle barrel in a weapon with the ergonomics of a sub-machine gun. Some other significant features include fully ambidextrous controls and reversible charging handle and shell ejection port allowing the rifle to be configured for both left and right handed shooters. The unique two stage trigger allows the user to fire in semi-auto and full-auto without needing to manipulate a selector switch; for semi-automatic fire, the operator will just pull the trigger half way and if fully-automatic fire was necessary, the operator needs to only pull the trigger all the way back.Chambered in the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge for its ease of use and handling, the futuristic family of rifles in the AUG line can be quickly adapted to accommodate a wide variety of roles in the ever changing battlefield with just a quick swap of the barrel. The AUG is definitely a well-rounded combat weapon with a proven track record that can stand its own even with todays modern combat rifles.

"I've had the JG military version for a few years now. You must understand, the military version of the AUG is both a fixed scope, and fixed zoom. That said, I was chrono'd at 330-345fps using .25 or .28 bbs i believe. This does have the Ver3 gearbox, so upgrading is no issue. For those interested in upgrades, start with the hopup assembly, as the OE is plastic. I bought this to stand out, and the ergonomics are excellent. It is lightweight and comfortable, and out of the box shoots fairly straight. The trigger response leaves a bit to be desired, and in the heat of the moment, I've gone full auto when I wasn't supposed to. That said, upgrades are a bit scarce in the way of cosmetics, but internals are readily available.
-good selection of internal upgrades
-great price point for what you're getting
-fps is a bit low out of the box
-external upgrades are a bit scarce and expensive
-weak hopup caused over feeding, which ended up in the butt stock
If you're looking for something different that won't break the bank on upgrades, this is a great platform with excellent ergonomics and accuracy.
"I spent over an hour testing multiples of this gun. Too many of them are defective:
1. Some models had extremely stiff hop ups
2. Another chrono'd at about 350 fps (why would I want a gun w/ a 3x scope to chrono at cqb rates..?)
3. Scope nubs for adjustment DO NOT TURN.
The last one was the one I went home with. After so many disappointments, I'm going to return this gun.
I don't want to deal with a gun that seems to have very unreliable/inconsistent internals.
That said, the gun itself, if working seems to be a nice gun. It shoots fairly accurately, if you can get the hop up set up right, up to at least 100m - 120m. I would've loved this gun if my scope was adjustable, but that was the last straw. The scope not adjusting for me ruined it for me because that was the part I was most looking forward to. If you can get your hands on a working model of this gun, then you'll love it.
- rails for attachments are nice
- trigger responds well
- beautiful scope
- too many defects
"I love mine after a while though need to replace hop up but really this is a amazing gun
