"I've had this gun for awhile now, and there are plenty of things I like about it and plenty of things I don't like about it.
I bought this primarily to have something that looks sweet while shooting targets. It's great for that. It's fun, simple, and has a really awesome look--especially if you put a real wood stock and handguard on it.
It also just feels really good to hold. It's relatively light and most of its weight is in the the main body/receiver right between where you place your hands, giving the gun an overall balanced feel.
It's also performs pretty well for being a relatively cheap springer. It shoots hard out of the box and is decently accurate at range. If you want to use it for more than just shooting paper targets, you might consider upgrading some internals, but overall I'm satisfied with its performance.
The magazine is a little wobbly/loose. It's not so bad that it's going to come out when you don't want it to, but it does have some lateral movement. If you feel like being airsoft's version of MacGyver, the wobble is pretty easy to fix.
My biggest gripe with this gun is that the metal it is made out of is really shoddy. I don't think that the gun would break under normal usage, but assembly and disassembly has become increasingly difficult. Basically, the metal it's made out of is like butter, and if you take out any of the small grub screws (which you have to do to take the handguard off), they will strip. Not just the heads of the screws, but the threads and the sides of holes they go into as well. I'm generally pretty careful when it comes to tightening/loosening screws and have never had problems like I've had with this gun on anywhere else. Maybe you're more careful than me, and this won't happen to you, but taking those grub screws out has become a real pain.
I'm also not super happy with the way PSO-1 scope aligns with the gun. It fits tightly and is secure, but I've spent a great deal of time trying to adjust ("zero") the scope, and I just can't seem to get it right. The gun looks really cool with the scope, but because I can't get it zeroed, my shots are more accurate without it, even at longer range. (The iron sights are pretty accurate, by the way).
Overall, this is a fine gun. Nothing special in terms of performance, but I love the look of the SVD. There are plenty of better SVD models on the market, but if you want an SVD because you like they way it looks and want to have some fun, this is a good value. "*UPDATE to the review below*
i finally got to try the rifle with .0.36g BBs (vs 0.25g). flight path has leveled out, shots are more predictable. i tested it to around 180 feet, shooting at a metal target about 14x8 inches with the iron sights. got a few tinks. it just takes the BB longer to get down range. i'm pretty happy with the change. but i might pick up the tighter bore barrel to get back some fps. thanks for reading again. "i'm convinced i got a lemon. there was so much wrong with my rifle out of the box. everything was loose. everything clanked and wobbled. screws were missing or not the correct size—one screw hole was even filled with solder preventing adjustment…just frustrating. it was nothing like i've read in the reviews.
i would encounter an issue and send evike a tech ticket…only to find another problem 10 minutes later an create another ticket. the evike techs were good and patient. they confirmed i had received an anomaly and i was eventually granted an RMA (return). evike is good people.
however, i kept the rifle and have been addressing the issues. drilled out the solder and tightened everything up. it was feeling solid. so i went out to give it a try for some distance (~80ish feet). couple of shots and whoa! too much hop. went to adjust the hop-up only to find the adjustment screw was gone. too much hop without even having a screw to add hop? (sad walk home).
i completely took the rifle apart and then reassembled—cleaning, tightening, and lubricating as i went (the construction is simple and you can have it apart and put it back together in 15 minutes). i'm not sure what screw or adjustment i made, but it's better rifle now. it isn't perfect or probably approaching the performance of others that have written reviews. but all it's faults are 'fixable' if you have the time/money/effort and patience.
it still has too much hop without the adjustment screw (the least amount possible). i ordered some 0.36g bbs to see if the trajectory flattens out. i'll see if i can track down a PPS unit and maybe a better barrel.

Matrix SVD II Dragunov Bolt Action Airsoft Sniper Rifle (Stealth Black)
A variation of the popular SVD Airsoft Sniper Rifle, the SVD II is a joint project between Matrix and A&K to bring you a re-designed reinforced model of the A&K SVD. Matrix had produced their variation of this legendary sniper rifle in all stealthy black furniture. By utilizing a manual cocking, spring powered system they are able to produce very consistent results with every shot. This is a key requirement for any serious sniper rifle. The Airsoft SVD II Dragunov Series comes in three different colors to accommodate any player on any battlefield. As a sniper, you rely on using all elements of stealth to get the job done. The Matrix Airsoft SVD Dragunov Sniper Rifle Series comes in all the colors you'll need to stay hidden and stay on target. The SVD II is 100% compatible with the previous version with capability to handle some extreme upgrade kits that will be released in the future such as the Co2 kit. You may see the Matrix SVD II packaged in the B&W boxes when they are manufactured in Taiwan instead of China now for better quality control and performance.
SVD II vs First gen SVD:
The previous version had an inherited issue of excess wobbling and magazine not being a tight fit. The Ver. II has more reinforced parts and enhanced performance. Less gun wobbling and magazines have a tighter fit to resolve the "dropping magazine" issue with the previous version found on many Airsoft guns. To use gen1 mag on genII, you may need to pull the mag release to lock in the magazine, but it will be a much more secure fit perfect for sniping.
