Originally designed under the US Army's Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) program; the XM8 was a part of a complete weapon system which was then later separated from the program to be a stand alone weapon. The XM8 was a weapons concept the US Army was hoping to replace the standard M4 / M16 weapons platforms for the standard infantry rifle in favor of a much more modular and lightweight space age design. The goal was for a cheaper, lighter, and easier to maintain all-in-one weapons platform that can be easily re-configured into multiple variations to fill various roles on the battlefield from a short barreled PDW to a bipod equipped support weapon.
SRC now makes one of the best XM8 AEG's on the market with their new gen.2 Tokyo Marui type Version 3 reinforced gearbox. The new generation gearbox features 8mm bushings, reinforced steel gears, and a metal hop-up chamber. The rifle's receiver, front, and rear assembly are all constructed out of high impact reinforced polymers to cut down on weight and the adjustable stock helps keep a compact profile. The rifle itself has completely ambidextrous controls to cater to both left and right handed shooters. A 1.5x scope is integrated to the rifles upper receiver and carrying handle with a set of flip up back up iron sights.

"Bought mine here. I love it.
Did alot of upgrading. Loose stock problems are from a bottom seam that opens and just needs some epoxy. Careful not to glue stock in place. The optic while authentic has bad eye relief so i put a elcan specter dr 1-4x with mini red dot.
The optic rail can be loose so i put teflon tape and eliminated the looseness of the carry handle and optic rail. Same with barrel wobble.
Found the upgrade piston was tight in the gear box so it might require some measuring for upgrade pistons. The stock piston is .805 from top to bottom of the teeth. My upgrade piston was .825 which bound with the sector gear. After modding it works beautifully. Fits an 11.1v lipo in the handguard. Many users have broken hinges in the handguard. Be careful with it and it will last. I have a harris bipod mounted via keymod adapter drilled in the front of handguard.
May not be a best beginner gun but a head turner for tech savvy players. Once you fix up the defects it can be an amazing rifle for a player that doesnt abuse thier gun. Highly recommend it.
"I've owned this M8 for about 3 years now and I'd have to say I have absolutely annihilated people using this gun with completely bone stock internals. It's a fairly solid design, some people have problems with the stock but mine has worked with no issues. I took off the scope bought a 1' rail riser for clearance and put a hollow sight on that bad boy, it looks amazing. I haven't seen another person sporting this gem making it rare to see in the wild, which is nice.
solid hop up
scope can be changed
inner and outer barrel can be extended
Kicks serous trash indoors
stock scope is pretty good
has holes to put a rail under the hand guard for grips
can become rickety over time
you have to get kinda close for outdoor use
"an okay gun for CQB the one i got was shooting fine the only problems i have are it has a wobbly right the scope goes on and my front iron sight came bent other than that its an pretty okay rifle
