Originally designed under the US Army's Objective Individual Combat Weapon (OICW) program; the XM8 was a part of a complete weapon system which was then later separated from the program to be a stand alone weapon. The XM8 was a weapons concept the US Army was hoping to replace the standard M4 / M16 weapons platforms for the standard infantry rifle in favor of a much more modular and lightweight space age design. The goal was for a cheaper, lighter, and easier to maintain all-in-one weapons platform that can be easily re-configured into multiple variations to fill various roles on the battlefield from a short barreled PDW to a bipod equipped support weapon.
SRC now makes one of the best XM8 AEG's on the market with their new gen.2 Tokyo Marui type Version 3 reinforced gearbox. The new generation gearbox features 8mm bushings, reinforced steel gears, and a metal hop-up chamber. The rifle's receiver, front, and rear assembly are all constructed out of high impact reinforced polymers to cut down on weight and the adjustable stock helps keep a compact profile. The rifle itself has completely ambidextrous controls to cater to both left and right handed shooters. A 1.5x scope is integrated to the rifles upper receiver and carrying handle with a set of flip up back up iron sights.

"an okay gun for CQB the one i got was shooting fine the only problems i have are it has a wobbly right the scope goes on and my front iron sight came bent other than that its an pretty okay rifle
"I have had this gun for about 3 months now and played with it every weekend and thought I could finally write review.
First off unboxing it, it looked awesome especially with the two tone gray and black. Picking it up it was surprisingly heavy for a mainly plastic gun, its metal where it counts though. The charging handle was a bit sticky (might have been me) and the hop-up is kinda hard to adjust and doesn't shoot very flat still quite accurate. The scope is a bit weird and hard to use with the stock especially with a mask. I'm not sure if you can adjust it (I'm pretty sure you can) but its zero was a little to the right of the left of the bb's. The magwell is a little weird but the mags fit fine. The mags though I would definitely replace they don't feel well and you only get like 3 shots per wind they also don't feed well. The fire selector is very wiggly and often times if it isn't on perfectly it will go on safe (GOTTEN ME KILLED SO MUCH!) The battery compartment is very tight and fragile the hinge that folds the cover broke very fast but was fixed with tape.
Now for some pro's and cons
Super cool looking
Weighty but not too heavy
Cool G36 reticle on the scope
Ambie fire selector
Scope kinda off
Hard to adjust hopup
Fragile battery compartment
Mags feed poorly
Stock feels wiggly and fragile
Sticky Charging handle
Well that's all I would definitely recommend for someone who wants to turn some heads at your field or if you can pull off some miracles as a tech. This gun is a lot of fun especially in CQB.
"I wish I had more good to say about this gun. First off, it looks great, it feels great (especially if you replace the scope with a little red dot), and it's really one of the only options out there if you want the fantastic fishgun.
Other than that, the flash hider came crooked, as was the front sight, but tilted in a different direction so it wasn't just the barrel being misaligned, and I have found no satisfactory way to fix it thus far. The bottom of the shell encasing the stock also splits because it is just smooth plastic pegs holding it in place, but you could fix it with superglue if you felt so inclined. If you don't, the stock will inevitably start collapsing on you at the slightest pressure because the force on it's latch system will push the shell apart. Just don't be a fool like me and leave the stock in when you glue it. Luckily I left it in my most comfortable position.
If you buy this, pray that the QC gods find you in their favor.
