"G&P makes awesome M4's but their AK series lacks quality control. Bottom line; worth the money for parts alone, however, the will need work even if new from the box.
EXTERNALLY, the quality of this gun is better than CYMA/Echo 1's. It is still made of mixed metals but is strong and durable, while being a tad lighter than the CYMA/Echo 1's. Still has good weight to it, but not the stupidly heavy for no reason kind of feeling. The top cover doesn't even wobble or move at all. Very well built.
The RIS is made of full metal, and is attached straight to the outer barrel via two rings; this means all the pressure and tension is on the outer barrel itself. Because of this, after a while the outer barrel will come loose from the upper receiver. I added foam and electrical tape along the end of the outer barrel that sits inside the upper receiver. So far it has been holding strong (~4 months; 10k bb's).
Selector switch is sloppy at best. It was the first thing I changed out on the gun. I actually bought this in store, so I knew the selector switch was iffy when I bought it. It's an easy fix and knew I had parts laying around. Not only is it loose, it does not have any inserts such as pressure washers and such. Because of this, the selector switch will always become loose over time. I found CYMA brand OEM selector switch, along with the selector gears, are perfect fit for this G&P and do not become loose over time. The tiniest dab of blue thread locker helps too. Not too much or you'll have trouble getting into your gearbox.
The stock wobbles a tad like a real AR style stock, however, this is airsoft so I wanted no wobble. Thin piece of electrical tape fixed wobble easily.
INTERNALLY the gun is amazing. It shoots well at a consistent 415 fps after settling, with a 407 mm 6.03 tbb using .20's. Out of the box it was shooting mid 430's with its stock barrel (6.08?). Something random to know is that the stock barrel is 380mm and is fits just 2mm shy of the end of the outer barrel. The 407 mm sits outside of the outer barrel, but a regular M4 flash hider will cover it up.
The gearbox is full metal where metal should be; air nozzle, spring guide, bushings, gears, hopup unit... It has a plastic piston, which has a reputation to strip and give problems, but so far so good in my G&P. I did have to correct the AOE once, but after that it was good to go.
The motor needs to be replaced. G&P M120 motors used to be awesome upgrade option for AEG's. In the last year or two, G&P has been making bunk M120 motors. The newest batch of G&P M120's still have the speed and torque like they used to, but it does not last long at all. Mine lasted two separate days of play, that's perhaps 2000 bb's at the most.
Trigger contacts were installed poorly. The trigger contact was meshing wrong and only wearing on one side. After a few thousand shots, and running lipo, the contacts burned out. Partly my fault for not using a MOSFET, but these contacts burned out way way way faster than they should have. I have old stock CYMA AK's that have seen way more abuse than this G&P, and their stock contacts are still going strong after 2 years of 7.4 lipo.
In the end of it all, this gun is only for those who are willing to put in a little work for a new gun that's straight out of the box. The external quality of the gun is where it shines, as well as the quality of its parts. The downside to the gun is that someone put it together poorly. It just needs some lovin' and patience (and a new motor).
"This gun is amazing. It feels great and works like a champ. Not only does it look cool but it DOES have full metal rails! It is very accurate and fun to use. Get this gun if you love the tactical AK looks. No problems with it.
-Full metal Rails
-Tactical Look and Feel to it
-Charging handle needs to be lubed a bit to slide realistically (Don't Care)
-No battery or charger
"This is an extremely cool looking unique weapon to have around. It has a unique M4/AK design that is a perfect choice for people that have a split decision on whether to buy an AK or M4.
_Full metal (excluding the stock and pistol grip)
_Comes with a metal flash hider suninstalled in the box (voids the warenty if you put it on though)
_Cool looking PTS MOE magpul stock
_ Great trigger response
_easy access to gearbox
_The battery is just a bugger to get in, that is if you can find a battery that fits the tube stock. I am still having trouble getting a good battery for it. IT TAKES LARGE DEANS!!! I wasted 40$ on that mistake.
_ no front site (come on guys)
_stock is a little wobbly and hard to get off
_ Piston supposedly strips hasn't happened to me yet but it is possible.
all together a cool gun its accurate and sounds nice the batteries might be the low point but it should not stop you from getting this Weapon!!
